Anyway. People are fond of the Tengu because it is highly tankable, highly mobile, and has good damage projection with HML's or better damage closeup with HAML's. When blitzing you're usually looking to hit particular spawns/targets and move around quickly to unlocked gates or loot something, so it's a "best of all worlds" type of ship. Don't overtank it, put some faction mods on it, and you can squeeze out more dps. Is it expensive? Yes, but you asked for "best ship types to aim for". T3 Cruisers are also heavily used in wormholes, null, and pretty much anywhere where you are doing higher end PVE/PVP.
As for your "not just for missions" thing, that's sort of up to you isn't it? I run 5 accounts and do PI, Trade, PVP, PVE, and mine, just not all at the same time or necessarily using all the accounts at the same time. If you're looking to run in roaming gangs using 6 or 7 accounts at once who aren't scouts then good luck. Managing the clickiness of EVE is pretty tough, so that restricts you to using capital ships, gate camps (use Tornados) and setups that aren't so mobile. If you're going for the all guns blazing type of thing I'd personally do 2 dps (cruiser, T3, battleship, dread), 2 logi (T2 logi, carrier), 1 JOAT (noctis, scout, cloaky, freighter, jump freighter), 1 tackler dps (cruiser, HIC, dread) or something of that sort. T3 Cruisers, Carriers, Dreads and Jump Freighters will make you valuable to wormhole groups or nullsec corps (2 of the things you mentioned). Good luck.
