SWToR is fun to multibox but isn't as easy as games that have an inbuilt macro system. If this was WoW I wouldn't bother but I like the Star Wars universe so persevere.

I am dual boxing as well and at level 20 am finding that the 4+ Heroics are very tough and not worth it. Looks like I will be sticking to the 2+ from now on. Better players may have a better chance at the 4+.

Multiboxing got more fun after I used the macro system on my game pad (Ideazon Fang) to macro the DPS keys. Basically it will run through the normal DPS keys (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) in order. That way I put the best ability with longest cooldown at 1 and the instant attack at 5.

Not sure why assist is slow for you though.
I set up my dps keys so that if I press 1 the second character asissts main on down press and then 1 is fired on the up press.

Didn't think to do separate functions for key down and key up. That way every time you attack you are setting/readjusting the assist on the slave character. Right?

Correct.

I have 4 separate heal buttons that will target either of the two characters or their companions and lay down a heal (again with up/down key press). Then hitting the DPS button refocuses the healer back on the offensive target. A simple but so far effective healing technique.

For the harder fights I am going to try using some CC though. Generally I just run in and smack away. My Shadow just got a 60 second mez (from stealth though) that should really help out.

Having recently moved from dual boxing SWTOR to quad-boxing, there are definitely advantages for either setup but I love the quad-boxing so much more. Once I got past the initial setup (dual-boxing in swtor is seriously easier to setup than 3/4 accounts) the game has been a blast for multiboxing, it's just not quite as easy to setup as it is with WoW (quint-boxed WoW).

The camera-viewpoint of the slaves will always be an issue it seems so you're not doing anything incorrectly there. Mouse click AOE's will always be a pain as a result.

Like pox67 mentioned, leveraging the click & release is very important and which commands in what order and how to separate which into steps. For example, I use a dedicated key for assist: "press" fires step 1 which is defined as target the current lead character slot and the "release" fires step 2 which issues the assist command. Since these are both in-game keyboard commands it's been my experience to have them as two separate steps in your key map and it works very well. Then I use whats nicknamed the "popsicle" setup which is like a pseudo-macro setup of like a DPS key that fires off the next available attack ability in the order you defined.

Also, I highly recommend looking into setting up ISBoxer's "click bars" to manage CC and heals which moves the use of buttons on your device to a virtual buttons in-game overlay. Other boxers commonly use this method so there are ample examples out there but I can post my current example later when I'm back at home if you're interested.
