Default What DPS is considered good?

Purely in pve I was wondering what sort of dps (in wow) you guys were managing? And what is considered good dps for a solo player.

Just wondering how close I'm getting with my multi class composition.

I just hit 85 and geared my guys in the MoP greens, with some ~ilvl 409 weapons, now that all my dps are in comparable gear I'll start monitoring what kind of dps they're putting out.

Let me know what you guys are/were doing at a similar level both for AOE and melee, if you can mention specific fights that'd be great.

    edit pve not pvp!

I think it's a somewhat relevant question at 90, but at 85 I'd suggest not caring and just leveling. Many boxers absolutely crush PvP while leveling and get the false impression it will be the same at 90; not so, unfortunately. It's a whole different ballgame at cap due to PvP power gear advantages, players who actually know how to PvP, and more focus from Blizz on balance. Additionally, it's kind of hard to determine DPS in PvP since your target is not static in any fashion. Your best bet is determining your DPS on a target dummy and then converting the numbers to account for PvP (much less than 100% uptime on target, some GCDs used for non damage abilities, resilience assumptions, etc)

I've never seen anyone measure how good they were at PvP via damage meters for exactly the reason that Owltoid mentions. In PvE a tank holds a target still while you are usually able to mindlessly stand there and DPS. In PvP, not so much.

    Moved again.

IMO DPS numbers are lame. It's all "I can do eighty hundred thousand gigawatts of DEEPS standing still at a target dummy using all my burst for 10 whole seconds. Unless you use Recount, which says I only do 57 hundred thousand, but if you look at the effective then I hit almost 92 hundred bazillion million!!"

If the mob dies before I do, then my DPS is fine. If the mob dies and I don't even come close to dying, then I'm awesome. The only time I actually look at DPS is when I'm building macros to determine what is a better setup.

As far as what's good for solo players, look at a site that does PvE Class rankings, like Noxxic or Raidbots. I'm sure there's other/better sites, but like I said, I don't keep up on this stuff. The only DPS numbers I have for my team are from like a month and a half ago.

I guess I'm trying to min/max my team, the aim is for MOP heroics and hopefully eventually bronze in challenge modes.

Been playing around with macros and I've been able to compare my dps to each other but it might be that they're all below par.

The first 2 MoP dungeons were really easy but it looks like a few of the mechanics that I've brute forced my way through are going to be a pain on heroic.

It's a bit tricky trying to dps with melee and ranged at the same time.

These are the results of simulationcraft, in best in slot HC gear. Have to take next in mind when analysing that data:

    - this is single target
    - simulationcraft relies on the community to keep the profiles for each spec up to date, and for accuracy. It's fairly known that some specs in simcraft are not really well designed, thus producing bogus results.
    - this is under perfect conditions, stand still and with all raid buffs/debuffs active

This is a list were all uploaded combat logs for heroic raids are taken into account, for all bosses.
    - many bosses have a gimmic, such as often a phase where they take x% more damage
    - some bosses like garajal cause skewed logs, since only the guy who actually logs and uploads his numbers are correct, the fight has 2 realms and if you are in the normal realm you cant log whats going on in the parallel realm, etc ...

Either way you can browse that site on a fight per fight basis to get a rough idea yourself. So far there is not really an agreemennt on what exactly is the best way to use this data to compare specs, since each person comes up with his/her own method.

Yet alone that this data is for heroic raid geared players. When you run heroic dungeons and do dailies you'll have 30-40 ilvls less, not to mention that the fights are completely different. Elemental shamans are at the low end of the raiding spectrum atm for example, but in heroic dungeons they are insane. Reason is that their major CD is up for every boss and that pretty much every dungeon has trash where chain lightning shines.

I'm not sure at heroic levels but right at level 85 just into the first 2 mop normal dungeons all my dps seem fairly even, that is feral druid, elemental shaman and arms warriors.

The feral druid is usually the highest which is pretty insane seeing as I don't bother using her attacks that require position requirement when I'm doing easy dungeons.

I'm with red. I like to maximize, within reason, so that i am more efficient at killing bosses. I could care less about trash. For me, i noticed an improved success rate when i can kill a boss faster ( duh right? ) SO the better DPS I'm doing the faster i can gtfo and do my next one.. and less chances of running back from the grave. I few thousand extra dps from each toon can make or break some fights. I'm always looking for ways to improve. Also it just feels good when you figure out a way to do as good, if not better, than solo players when your in a PuG raid for a world boss or RaF 8) And i know i need lots of improvement based on what I see solo players doing, and what I know I used to be able to do in past expansions. As we all know, its a lot more tricky to get it done as good as It was back then, due to the many macro nerfs.

But i do understand Khats PoV.. as long as you get the job done, why worry?

To answer your question. I can only go by what I have done.. and I'm pretty sure I'm in lower range on my teams. My 85s all seem to do between 12-15k while questing and can do in the low 20s in dungeons . thats mages.. priests.. DKs.. paladins and monks ( I have LOTs of lvl 85 teams ) I only have a few 90s and they are all doing, on average 30kish in dungeons, ( bursting on bosses at around 50k ) In item lvl 460ish gear. Since I'm still leveling teams, and still gearing up y 90s.. thats bound to get better, but I have not spent much time lately trying to maximize.. as I'm focusing on getting my teams to 90. Then ill spend a lot of time here, the class theorycrafting sites, lazymacros site and at the target dummies. I want to build the best team for PvE I can out of what I have to work with ( everything ).

I think it is considered 'Good DPS', when the target(s) die and your team has not.
    That is the litmus test.
