Hi guys,
I finally started multiboxing (3 accounts)! I figured I’d start a thread to share my experiences so far. Hopefully this thread can help new multiboxers get started and myself learn some new things. I should warn that this is long.
After many, many hours of research I downloaded ISBoxer and picked up 2 new accounts and RAF’d them both to my original account.
The three classes I’ve gone with are:
NE Priest – currently specced discipline
NE Warrior – currently specced Arms
NE Druid – currently specced Feral
Reason I chose this class combination is because I wanted at least 1 tank and 1 healer.
I’ve never played a Druid before so I was pretty set early on that it would be one of my classes and that it would be dual specced Guardian/Feral.
I’m still not 100% convinced on the warrior (as the DPS class) but I’ve gone with it for now because I have a level 61 mage and 63 warlock and I’ll be happy to transfer them to the warriors account if I’m not happy with the class. In fact originally I was going to go with a DK but she won’t be able to join us until 60 anyway.
As for the priest, I was tossing up between a priest and a shaman as the healer. In the end it came down to totems, heroism and hex verses damage prevention and smite healing. I’m still pretty undecided but in the end the priest won out because she could be a NE. I’ll probably use my RAF grant a levels to level a shaman and try it out later to see if I prefer it.
After creating my characters I ran the ISBoxer wizard and setup IWT and CTM (Using Ualaa super awesome and easy to follow guide http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/3...469#post312469) for my two melee characters, after that I figured I’d jump in game and test it out.
It went pretty well, I zerged my way through mobs up until level 15 without any problems.
It was at 15 that I started to get far too many abilities on my three characters to continue trying to set separate keybinds for all 3 and playing them all independently.
So at this point I had to jump back into ISBoxer and educate myself in the software a bit more.
First of all I setup a “rotation” for each of the two melee classes so that when I spammed “2” they would go through several abilities.
So when I spam “2”
My Warrior spams:
Execute
Mortal Strike
Heroic Strike
My Druid:
Works a little differently, because in cat form (that I’m in most of the time) I have to build combo points, maintain a bleed and execute a finisher a created a cast sequence macro in game.
/castsequence [reset=target] Rake, Mangle, Mangle, Mangle, Mangle, Ferocious Bite
One problem I’m having is implementing Tiger’s Fury. I tried doing it similar to how I’ve setup my warrior where the when I spam “2”, my druid spams:
The castsequence macro
Tiger’s Fury
But it only ends up making the druid use her Tiger’s fury too early (as in at the start of the fight). For now I’ve taken it off and given it its own keybind
For bear form the druid spams
Mangle
Maul
I setup 2 more macro on both the warrior and druid; both are charge macros with another skill integrated.
The first 2 macros (1 each) are used as charge openers. These are bound to the same key in game and in ISBoxer (and therefore are both cast simultaneously)
For the warrior the macro is,
#showtooltip charge
/cast battle stance
/cast victory rush
/cast charge
Basically this will put her into Battle Stance (if she’s not), Charge at the target and cast Victory Rush (if it’s available)
For the druid the macro is
#showtooltip Wild Charge
/cast Cat Form
/cast Wild Charge
/cast Rake
Similar to above, this will put her into Cat Form, Charge at the target and cast Rake
Double charging as an opener is both awesome and really convenient for multiboxing. Because the warrior stuns the target and they both generally get there at the same time often my melee gals are able to engage the first mob without too much running all over the place.
The second 2 macros (again 1 each) are used either when I they have a lot of damage coming in or when I need to pull agro off of my priest.
The warrior’s macro is
#showtooltip taunt
/cast Defensive Stance
/cast Charge
/cast Taunt
This macro will put my warrior into Defensive Stance, Charge at the enemy and taunt them.
The druid’s is practically identical
#showtooltip Growl
/cast Bear form
/cast Wild Charge
/cast Growl
It will put my druid into Bear Form, Charge at the enemy and taunt them.
I have not bound these to the same key, the warrior’s is bound to “G” and the druid’s is bound to “ALT G”. This allows me to use them separately and not waste my taunts.
So with that all done I figured it was time to try out my skills and jump into a dungeon. I qued for LFD and Deadmines popped.
As soon as I entered the dungeon one of the party members was raging that my bear tank was not guardian specced. He rage quit, the second member quickly followed. Good start! But never mind, this is the perfect opportunity to test my new setup and take my time through it without others there to inconvenience.
The dungeons went by pretty smoothly at the start with the three of us tearing through mobs. Although, I almost lost a character here and there because I had to get used to; both paying attention to healing and targeting. I found it really difficult to watch my Healbot and make sure my melee characters were attacking the right target and not standing around or walking off. Constantly having to use my mouse for both Healbot and to target the next mob for my guys to beat on was a bit off a mess.
I had the thought that it would be really useful if I could have my priest target another mob automatically and immediately after one was killed without using my mouse. I found the answer to this issue with a really simple macro on my priest.
/targetenemy [noharm]
All this does is target the closest enemy to my priest if I don’t have a current target. I also bound this to my “2” key on my priest so that she was constantly spamming it at first, but I quickly realized that sometimes (actually a lot of the time) I’d like my guys to target a specific mob. I switched the macro to its own keybind.
The macro is extremely useful when fighting large packs of mobs especially non elites because often my warrior or druid will one shot the mob and without a target will either stand still or worse run off.
With that done we pushed on without any difficulties from any of the bosses. The biggest challenge was navigating the bridges and the boat. My 2 melee guys kept running off during combat and falling in the water. I had to run them back about 4 times before I figured out what was wrong!
Turns out I had the IWT key in too many of my Mapped Keys, so the game was sending it far too often to my 2 gals causing them to run around like idiots! (At least I think that what was up). When I removed from all but my main DPS Mapped Key all seemed fine.
So once that was sorter we made our way up to the top of the boat and murdered cookie!
So far the experience has been super fun! I will share more when I fine more time to play.
