Since I've Multiboxing Ive noticed that my system performance left many things to be desired. The biggest problem Im sure any multiboxer faces is BROKEN FOLLOW! This is the most basic requirement for Multiboxing.
I run all three toons on my Duo Core 2.0Ghz, 2GB RAM, 7200 rpm SATA drive, and 256MB 7900GeforceGo Card. I usually use the laptop when I watch TV with the Wifey.
When I get time to really get into the game I play on my Desktop AMD 3700, 2GB RAM, 2.2Ghz, 7200 rpm ATA drive, 256MB 7800GT Geforce Card.
So Shat lag was out of control...I'd mount up and ride from the BG master to the Orgimmar Portal and its Like Id hit a wall. The Graphics would load, but the Map wasnt generated yet. This enivitably would lead to BROKEN FOLLOW!
So I decided that the problem had to be my ATA HDD. Its old and slow, and on top of that I found out I had it operating on the same IDE bus as a 5200 rpm HDD. Thus limiting its performance to the slowest device on the bus...yep, essentially downgradnig the 7200rpm to a 5400rpm HDD.
So I get the HDD installed and decided to Overclock the 3700. When I first bought the computer that was the plan from the start but the performance was so earth shattering at the time, I didnt bother. So I overclock to 2.66GHz. Without yet utilizing the new HDD, all my problems were gone!
My leason learned is that the processor doesnt start falling out of the equation until you hit 3.0GHz. I was under the assumption that it was more then enough processing power and that the bottle neck surely was somewhere else in my computer. Its working flawlessly now. So from my experience a 3.0 GHz processor is a must, dual, quad, HT...
When I do build my next system, it wont be with anything slower. Thought Id share my 2cents.
