I almost didn't do MoP because of the panda thing, kung-fu panda, all that cheesy stuff. Especially the cinematic and all the ridiculous kung fu and chinese stereotypical culture references in the name of all of their abilities and quests, zen this meditation that, blah blah blah... but
They pulled it off in a way that wasn't anything like I had expected. I'm not exactly race changing to all male pandas (although the female pandas were pretty cool for shaman), but I'm enjoying the expansion and none of it turned out anything like kung-fu panda nor pokemon.
If you simply looked at the cinematic, heard about pandas and pokemon, and decided the game sucks and never played it, don't know what to tell you.
1. Most people don't play monks, it was nothing like to the extent where everyone made a DK when wrath came out
2. The panda NPCs and players aren't anything like that godawful annoying kung-fu panda pet that I have to mute, or chen stormwhatever in the cinematic. They're actually far more tolerable than the space goats from eastern europe who crashed in azeroth.
3. Pandaria is not a big continent filed with nothing but kung fu references, bruce lee-like sound effects, and that sort of thing.
4. Pokemon (pet battles) are a completely optional, non-essential and small part of little more than sub-game that I don't even see people doing. I haven't even trained it and it affects nothing I do in the game otherwise. You don't see people spamming in trade wanting to do pet battles. It's the same as usual
5. Farmville (aka Tillers faction and their dallies) are optional, and can be ignored if you don't feel like doing it. I've been playing almost since release and I can't even tell you what zone that faction is in and have made no attempt to even unlock those dallies.
Everything else is a much improved an enjoyable WoW:
-Talent and glyph system that makes sense, more customization, streamlined questing,
-cross realm zones,
-World PVP that is actually happening everywhere all the time 24/7,
- dallies that have great rewards and a chance to gank endless players of the opposing faction, PVP vendors out in the middle of nowhere (read: massive warzone gankspot that you can camp, even the vendors can be killed, meaning people will come out and defend)
- new battlegrounds, one of which is awesome for boxers (the powerball one)
- Wintergrasp and Tol Borad coming back for level 90s
- Heroic 5 mans that are easier both for single players and to box than wrath and those horrible cata instances
- Challenge modes if you like doing speed runs
- LFR - great way for boxers to get to do raid content, just queue and go
- More world pvp being added in 5.1, including a daily area focused specifically around horde vs alliance. I can imagine some serious pvp action there
- AOE looting which is one of the best new features since release of WoW
- Quests which were the bane of mulitbox questing - collect items which are dropped off a creature, are now a non-issue because 90% of the quests drop one for each character in the group. Couple that with us being able to do kill quests faster than a single group, and it makes up for the "collect X off the floor" quests that slow us down a bit.
Downsides already discussed. Elemental shaman are horrible single and even more horrible stacked and are actually just getting nerfed (due to resto being OP) which affected both specs. Enhance is decent boxed though. Melee boxing is the in-thing right now with DKs being strong. If you already have shaman (like I do) they're more fun to box as healers. Hardware is cheap enough you may as well run 5x dps 5x healers to be invincible (that's my plan anyway)

I dont like the pandas myself, but i'm having a great time killing them! I just came back a couple of weeks ago and it's been good to get back into things. Pvp is tough, but thats good.. if everything were a cake-walk I think we'd get kinda bored.
I'm enjoying myself! That is all
I think there's only four things I dislike (or drives me crazy) about MoP is:
Dailies and Rep
Removing guild perks that were awesome for no apparent reason
Putting pvp gear vendor out in the middle of nowhere
Only one portal to Pandaria and no AH or Bank
Aside from those four things, I think this is the best Xpack they've done.
WoW is in an absurd state. I pretty much just gave up on it and canceled all my accounts.
Dailies / Quests are not fun to me and I find it absurd that a portion of the WoW community that does enjoy them has forced them down our throats. Thus, I will not resub until they resolve the daily issues and seeing how they probably won't I'm in no rush to resub.
It's for the best anyhow. MMOs are just the same level and gear grind with scant lore tossed in every new expansion. Here, lets give you epics and in 6 months we'll make them useless so you can grind more epics. I know people really enjoy this sort of thing but I find it insulting. Nobody does it quite like Blizzard but that's not saying much anymore. It's a tired old formula (coming from an EQ vet... EQ vanilla PvP servers were the Golden Era of the MMO) and I'm done with it.
The key issue is time, if you enjoy playing and have the time then go for it and have fun. I ran two 5 man teams in wrath and cata and enjoyed it however my time is shorter now and I found I could bearly keep my chars geared - I would log on and do a mad rush of an instance/daily lfr etc just to keep up then repeat forever. On top of that every year you have your gear made useless and have to level some more. Wow is good, it used up 6 years of my life but it is the same old thing - you get gear so you can get more gear, any end point is only an end till the next expansion at which point out is no longer impressive or worth having (its amazing how many people think their achievements are impressive yet how few people are genuinely impressed by achievements). You also miss our on other games if you spend all your time/cash on wow which is no problem but you do realise how repetitive it is? I had actually upgraded 5 thousand items, the same item on the same char in some cases over one hundred times.
I dont see why anyone would hate wow however I also don't see why it matters if people hate it, play it because you enjoy it not because you think others are impressed or because you are impressed by what others think.
People get tired of it, that's all. Especially if they played alot in the past (or worse, pushed themselves far longer than it was fun), it's easy to get burnt out and "hate" it. The thing to keep in mind is that ALL games are repetitive, and video games particularly so. The difference being that with most video games, you've had your fill after a few weeks or months, whereas MMORPGs try to continue to run for years. There are only so many ways to vary the gameplay, and after eight years on the treadmill some people are going to be fed up.
It's natural. Just learn to have a bit of perspective and it doesn't seem so bad.
"Multibox : !! LOZERS !!" My multiboxing blog
The reasons:
1. Dallies and rep - added because of people complaining in Cata there was nothing to do but sit in Org/SW and queue for stuff or spam trade. Rep was done in a few days with a tabard, and the daily quest hubs became obselete very quickly, even further making it pointless to ever leave town.
2. HGWT removed so that people actually have to travel and not teleport everywhere for free, again an attempt to make people get out of cities. Double run speed as dead so there is actually Some penalty of dying and having to corpse run, and so that battles could finish properly rather than someone ice skating back to their corpse in 2 seconds and rezzing.
3. PVP gear vendor in the middle of nowhere for two reason - so you'd have to leave town (a recurring theme here, eh?) and the possibility of PVP... you couldn't really gank in the middle of Old Town or in Valley of Strength. You can at the new locations.
4. Only one portal is stupid but... there are both personal and guild banks in Pandaria faction cities. There is no AH but they put one right next to the portal in Org.
When you look at the changes from a different perspective, they make sense. I single-boxed in Cata and never left orgrimmar. The entire "world" of warcraft was dead and there was no reason to go anywhere. You found groups, queued, teleported wherever you were, and if for some crazy reason you had to go somewhere, the entire raid would just get summoned there for free.

Which only works on paper and on a handful of balanced realms. On my main realm alliance has zero chance to buy pvp gear, unless maybe in the middle of the night. Result: even more server transfer away to a heavily alliance populated realm, resulting in even more unbalanced realms.
And exactly the same is true for needing honor points from random bgs to buy pvp gear while they can't control the amount of bots. Resulting in even more players who give up to play legit and starts botting. And then some joker at blizzards decides it's a good idea that you can upgrade honor gear with needing even more honor points.
Are you really doing dailies once you have the required rep for that particular piece of gear? I did the dailies for about 3 weeks, and I have enough points for extra rolls for another 2 months ...
Leaving town is good, but I doubt a never ending list of dailies is the right way to do that in the long run, or for alts.
The 1 portal back and the removal of HGWT make sense imo, I fly way more often in the world than I was in cata.
