Good stuff. I didn't read through the whole thing. but what are the sample size ? now i know what graphic card brand not to buy

From page 1 of the article: The first question is of course where the stats come from. They’re taken from a large French etailer, whose database we have had direct access to. We were therefore able to extract the stats we wanted directly from source.

I suppose they don't cover sample size but if it's anything like newegg, it's plenty enough to glean meaningful data. Considering how much marketing spam I get for OCZ, I suspect they're a higher sell rate, which only makes those numbers worse.

That's one of the reasons I've kinda always touted that I would steer clear of OCZ (SandForce, in general) SSDs. They burned so many people last year, it's hard to ever recommend them again.

I've had mixed reliability on the OCZ SSDs.

My first was fine, for a month.
Then it died.

The replacement was fine, and has not had any issues.

When I added another identical drive.
That one failed, when the two were put into Raid0.

The replacement for that has been fine, and the Raid has been going a few months.

If I had needed to RMA the drives, that would have been a massive inconvenience.
Drop off the system, and in both cases pick it up in under 3 hours...

The performance of the OCZ's has been good on the working drives.





My local store (www.memoryexpress.com) has an insurance option called an IPR.

IPR is "Instant Product Replacement".
If something goes, the store will replace it with an identical piece, in either of two ways.
a) Physical item, immediately on the visit to the store (once they check serial numbers, anyway); or
b) Free replacement into the system, within 24 hours.

If a piece goes, and is no longer available, they get you the next piece up.
And if the whole system is covered by IPR, and the processor goes but the next piece up required a new motherboard (to match the socket type or whatever) they'd replace both.

IPR is comprehensive; if I overclock and destroy a CPU, that is covered.

It is insurance, so if you need it then it was a good deal to have.
If you don't need it, then not so much.
And it is priced in such a way that those who don't need it cover the cost of those who do.

I've paid for four year IPR on the last four systems (Q6600, i7-920, i7-2500K/i7-2600K, and i7-3930).
IPR has replaced two OCZ SSDs and a 27" monitor (got an LED worth twice as much... in the place of a discontinued LCD, because of one dead pixel).

stay the hell away from OCZ. I've had so many problems with their SSDs, it really isn't worth it.

The article says each sample size had to be at least 100, which is plenty to draw some conclusions
