Yeah, that is what I concluded as well, which is why I ended up using an Action Target Group.
What you described and linked is kinda what I have currently setup.
I have all my WoW macros in the IsBoxer Macro library and my main KeyMap simply calls out those macros.
For example, KeyMap 8 is my Main DPS Spam. For Death Knights, it will send a bunch of keys, for Retribution Paladins, it will send other Macros.
To disable my groups, I simply remove them from the Action Target group DKs or Paladins.
This works, but once my DPS Spam includes all classes it may get cumbersome to do all combination.
Secondly, I don't see a way to make it more fine-grained. For example, if I wanted to disable a retribution paladin in slot 5 only, I don't see a way to do so at this time unless I make my Action Target group seven more fine.
