Damage is typically measured in damage per second. I believe you are quoting total damage.

To measure DPS, you can use the mod Recount.

Just install it, then in game do

/recount toggle

and the window will pop up. Go to a target dummy for a Level 90, then hammer await for 5 minutes .

From the window, you can see a variety of statistics. use the arrow buttons to change the statistics you are looking at.

You can see total damage, damage per second, healing done, healing per second, and more.

If you click on one of the entries, you can get detailed information broken on a per toon basis and see what abilities were used, # crits, # hits, # misses, min, max, average, etc.


Secondly, you can compare this data to the theoretical damage that a Beast Mastery Hunter can do with your gear.

Take a look at http://rawr.codeplex.com/ . It is pretty easy to use. It will give you a general ball park of what your DPS should-be based on your current spec and gear.
