Default General Multiboxing Question - What happens when you cut the head off a snake?

I'm in the process of learning as much as I can about multi boxing before I dive in. I may have missed this in one of the forums. What happens when the toon you are driving (master) is killed? Are there macros or ways to easily switch toons from slave to master?

"FTL" is mostly WoW-specific (but also translates pretty well to RIFT macros); the same thing can be accomplished in most other MMORPGs as well.

For ISBoxer, here's How to set up follow/assist from any window for pretty much any MMORPG (video from MiRai included): http://isboxer.com/wiki/Common_modif...s_Key_Bindings

The snake keeps wriggling for quite some time

As for me, I have 4 different hotkeys which sets my leader as 1 of 4 toons. If the leader dies, I punch one of them and alt tab to that window, takes about 1 second to swap i think.

In a lot of cases I find you don't even need to swap active windows. Generally when your lead character dies (at least in WoW) you can still target other players which lets you continue to dps. Also if you are running dps toons that have a battle res like DKs or druids, I run a macro in the dps spam which will automatically cast battle res on my lead toon if it dies.

The only times you actually need to change from your lead to another toon are:
    a) The lead is under a CC effect, which occasionally prevents your slaves from registering target changes... but swapping to a new lead, or even to anything and back to the previous will remove this restriction.
    b) The lead has been killed, and either looted or the battle has moved beyond what he can see.

Just about any software will let you switch to a different toon, who is on the same computer.
With some the swap is instant, with others it might take a few seconds.
But you should be good to go, thereafter.

Even if you're not using an FTL assist.
Whether your assist is Focus based, Target based or Leader based, the act of switching to the new window will also send the leader update to the team.
Meaning, with even very minimal macros, the team can continue without issue.

The answer is: don't be a snake -- be a hydra.

I am crazy and use a focus based setup instead. Works quite well for me, but im sure that FTL is better.

Focus based setup can still be leaderless and generally involve less complicated macros than FTL setups. Focus is always set to the leader or active toon and your window swap hotkey automatically switches your focus to the new active window.

The advantage to having a focusless setup is that your focus is freed up to be allocated to cc or focus dps targets.

The advantage to targetless setup is that your selected target is not kept targeted the entire time making it slighty more difficult for the enemy to anticipate target changes etc.

Both of these setups can be hard coded to a single leader or made leaderless as described above.

Ugh, that is clever! I see what you did there.

BTW, is hydra still a viable multiplexer? I.e. is it still around?
