Default If you were to start over...

Let's say you were starting over, 5 boxing. You have 5 cute level 1 gnomes, and nothing else. How would you go about it? No SoR/RaF.

Level a mixed team to 85 first?

    Level one class x 5, i.e. 5 mages, 5 dk's, etc at a time to 85, then mix & match later?

Get one guy to 85, and just use him to boost 4 others at a time?

Keep all toons on the same server/faction?

    Mainly for PvE.

Sometimes I think I should have leveled teams of all the same classes first, then once I had several classes leveled I could build PvE teams of any mix I wanted.

But that would take too long, so I would just level a PvE team first.

First team: Pali tank, 3 x ele shamans, 1 x restro shaman.
Second team: 5 x mages (so I have access to ports from any toon)

I would probably do 5x mages and so that I could use them to level others later on.

If I was starting over, and only had an investment of one toon per account...
I'd probably ditch four of the accounts, pick up four new ones and go with RAF.
    A > B > C
    A > D > E
Possibly transfer a character, from the existing accounts if they're leveled/geared enough...

Assuming you set up RAF, or decide not to...

You'd want to get your toons into a Level 25 guild, for the perks.
Or baring that, the highest guild you can join on the server.

You'd also probably want to be on a server with other boxers.
Since you don't have much investment on the current server.

I would probably level either Feral Druids or Paladins.
Because 5x the same is easier than a mixed team.

And either group includes both a Tank, Healer and DPS toons...
Which allows you to run instances for gearing and the accrual of Justice points to buy heirlooms with.
Just because you don't start with heirlooms doesn't mean it isn't worth a week or so of running instances to get a full set.
I'd likely get the Cloth pieces with +Experience, because any toon can wear them and honestly 5x Warriors totally in cloth and using a weapon from 20 levels back... will still quest just fine.

With RAF, the fastest way to level a team is to boost them.
So boosting is going to be the fastest method, without RAF as well.
It's just other methods will be a lot closer than before...
    Example...
Speed is 100 when Boosting = 300 with RAF.
Speed is 80 when Questing = 240 with RAF.
If Boosting is the number 1 method and Questing is the number 2 method, the relative order of the most efficient leveling techniques is not going to change.

So my goal, after heirlooms will be to have a strong booster (Prot or Ret Paladin, Feral Druid), to boost other teams with.

I'd probably create all the teams and log them in.
Just so they begin to collect rested experience.

And if I knew I wanted "x" teams, bounce between them to optimize the use of the Rested experience.

    I'm personally enjoying...
    - 5x Druids, both as Feral and Resto.
    - 4x Frost Death Knights, with 1x Holy Paladin.

    I'm leveling, for MoP:
    - 5x Paladins, which will dual spec Ret and Holy.
    - Will likely run 4x Ret, with 1x Death Knight.

I'm tempted to level my Warlocks (20ish now).
    - 4x Warlocks and 1x Priest.

    In the past, I've liked:
    - Paladin Tank, 3x Elemental Shaman, 1x Warlock
... but toons have moved to other teams, and the Pally is actually on another server (The Zerg) as a Healer now...

    Beyond that, I have:
    - 5x Priest
    - 5x Hunter
    - Mix: Blood DK, Disc Priest, Elem Shaman, Destro Lock, Arcane Mage.
    - 3x Elemental Shaman, 1x Elemental & Resto Shaman, 1x Boomkin and Feral (will be Guardian in MoP) Druid.

... Plus others that are there purely because they're high enough for tradeskills.
... And others, who are purely bankers... seven guild banks currently.
    EverQuest I: Bard / Enchanter / Druid / Wizard / 2x Magician.
    Diablo III: 4x Crusader & 4x Wizard.

simple as that huh Ualaa? I like mages for the big burst damage but no healie clotheeys been there, die too much. pets are where it is at. Hunters and locks
RAF Tour Guide files are obsolete, I went to Zygor
    MultiBoxers play with themselves

I've 5-boxed through dungeons without RAF...it was soo slooooow. 10 days /played 1-80 in wotlk, including idling in Ironforge and levelling professions.
Never again...I would also drop those accounts and create new ones. Even xferring the new toons back onto the old accounts would be preferrable to me (which I have done).

Makeup would def be pally, 3 elesham, 1 rsham. It's just that OP. resto just keeps earth shield up, eles just CL to victory, and 4x healing stream totems make party damage almost a non-issue until BC dungeons.

I started over with 4 hunters. I lvl from x0 and x5 up to x3 and x8 and BG from there. As in I BG the last 2 lvls of each bracket and quest the first 3 for some gear. It's just so much fun, 100% win ratio atm.

After much pondering, I'll do what Uulaa & confusedtx5 suggest. Drop 4 accounts, RaF 4 new ones, and get new teams to 80 quick. Hunters, mages, dk's, paladins. Maybe I'll get every class x 5 to 80 for maximum versatility. I assume there is no limit to how many toons you can boost & grant levels to?

Wondering if it's worth paying another $35 to move my 80 alliance pally to Magtheridon, or just start fresh with all 5? I think 4 new accounts + xpacs is $200ish?

Man, this is a pricey hobby!

    It sometimes seems like it.

I think the monthly cost and game purchase puts it cheaper than what I spend on my bowling league once a week. What makes it expensive is the computer to play on. A bowling ball costs $200 for a nice one, computer costs 1.5k

Overall I still think its a good inexpensive hobby.

No doubt John. Sure keeps me out of trouble.

And thanks to Tiny(The Zerg), I'm in the sister guild now

Maybe I'll make a 5 x paladin team first, and the non-raf account one can be the booster. Or hunters. Or druids. Decisions decisions.
