Default ISBoxer - use symlink/junction for eve?

My current setup (not using any multiboxing software) for eve, I'm using junctions to create multiple folders for eve. This has been fine but now I'm trying to switch to using ISBoxer and by default it is using one folder. I've read the section of their install guide about using multiple folders for each install.

Using the one-folder default setup I'm noticing a pretty big performance hit (7 fps on the 2nd computer, although that computer is pretty taxed using 11 clients, so isboxer may be taking a toll with some overhead there)

Before I try and switch ISBoxer over to using the different folders I was wondering if anyone else had done this and noticed a performance increase/decrease when using ISBoxer this way?

Having one folder vs multiple folders will only affect loading times (e.g. initially loading the game, loading a new area, and so on) not your framerate in general. If your framerate is affected it is more likely to be because of something else -- like different settings in the prefs.ini file for example.

Because this only affects loading times, we prefer a single folder in order to take advantage of read caching mechanisms that are built into many levels, usually even including your hard drive (or SSD, etc). By using multiple folders, I would expect worse loading performance as a result of missing the caches. That is why this is recommended.

You're of course welcome to add your multiple folders to Inner Space to see what kind of results you get, and go from there

Thanks for the reply Lax. I'm not exactly sure how much overhead ISBoxer takes but previously I was getting much higher FPS (although the computer was pretty much capped out at using 11 clients, doing nothing else). In a few days I will get my main computer's videocard upgraded and will be able to balance the load of clients a bit better. I'm hoping that helps as I am optimistic on getting this to work for my needs. I know from using previous multiboxing software with WoW that this is a process of tweaking and usually isn't going to be perfect overnight.

The easiest answer is that the virtualized setup for EVE changed your in-game graphics settings, so they've re-enabled some options that kill your framerate. I presume you've already verified those are all identical to how you had them set up before?

I think everything is set to low or off that I can. I've got everything set up now and it's working pretty decently. The 2nd machine still is struggling with the 11 clients (where it did not before.. if I'm looking in the wrong spot for settings then that could be it)

Maybe lax can correct me if I'm wrong but even with a No Window Layout mode ISBoxer is probably still doing some re-rendering.. and that's causing the performance hit. I realize in most cases you want to have the windows scaled/do other fancy stuff so this is probably something that is just affecting me, trying to squeeze as much as I can out of that POS box I got from staples

In any case I'm pretty happy with the results.. WAY less clicking and much less disruption as I'm typically doing other stuff at the same time.

When I work up to doing some pve/pvp stuff I'm really going to appreciate ISBoxer.
