Default Mac hard drive question about recording game play

I've seen several people who record WoW videos says they get best results playing the game from one hard drive and recording the video to another hard drive. That's PC.

Is the same true for Mac? I'm guessing it is but if someone **knows** for a fact and can confirm I'd like to know.

If I would get significantly better performance - what does my setup need to be? I have an Imac so I don't think I can just pull the cover off and slap in another HD like with a PC. Are external hard drives capable of being as fast or fast enough?

The reason people say that is because you're trying to have 2 different and heavily threaded
programs access one single hard drive and read/write to it at the same time. It shouldn't have
anything to do with PC/MAC since they both use similar hardware.

Might be fast enough if it's USB 3.0 or eSATA otherwise, I wouldn't think so.
