Thread: Gear up pve

  1. #1

    Default Gear up pve

I am still preparing for hitting lv 85 with my DK / pally team. I suspect my gear will be very poor once I hit lv 85. I read a process of getting the required ilev for LFR involves running heroics (3 different cata heroics will give valor points). However to run these heroics through dungeon finder you need ilev 353. I will likely not be there immediately after hitting 85. Secondly I heard doing cata heroics as a boxer is not easy!!

So what process and dungeons can a 5x boxer run to gear up for LFR requirements?

Secondly, is dungeon finder difficulty easier than doing same dungeon normally? LFR makes the raid easier, so wondering if it works the same.

I would just start off with the BoE PvP gear, it is usually pretty cheap, and has good stats, and high ilvl. Then replace as you get PvE oriented gear. Augment what you can with better BoE gear and just take it slowly. It always takes time at first, but once you get a few upgrades, it speeds up quickly.

I suggest going in this order when hitting 85, if you don't have the cash to just buy BoE gear...
BG pvp --> convert honor into JP --> buy JP gear --> Do either LFR (with your whole team) or 4.3 heroics (with one toon at a time) depending on your gear level.
Once your gear is good enough, you can 5-box the 4.3 heroics.
Don't worry too much about the time it takes to do 4.3 heroics with one toon at a time. They are really short and go quite fast with most PUGs I've had. (30-45 min)
Using the dungeon finder doesn't make the places easier, but they DO give a 5% damage buff per random person (i.e. not premade) up to 15% max.
Also, the 4.3 heroics are WAY WAY easier than any of the others.

I'm trying to figure out what you guys consider "pretty cheap" for the BoE PvP gear... On my server, they're all 2k+ gold for each piece!

I will need a tank on the 4.3 heroics for sure. So does it work boxing if I have: 1x holy pally, 1x blood tank and 3x blood frost dps? Can the frost and blood DKs attack as a group and will the blood hold aggro?

What item level is needed to comfortably box heroics?

Since I am casual I am not too worried about how long it takes and I am out to enjoy. But pvp is also a lot of fun so I will end up running both and striving for a pvp set and pve set.

Which one would you consider the easiest? I haven't tried any yet because I failed miserably on the first boss in BRC, so I assumed all other heroics would be impossible for me.

on my realm (kazzak EU, horde) for a 377 healing pally set:

    helm: 130g
    shoulder: 87g
    chest: 360g
    belt: 100g
    legs: 150g
    feet: 170g
    wrists: 276g
    hands: 86g

1400g for the full set, melee plate has similar prices

leather & mail is much more expensive, cloth is a bit more expensive

Usually when 85 I farm BGs, converting honor to justice so I can buy some pve gear as well.

Also a question. Now I currently have a hunter team at 85 which uses pvp-gear. If farming justice to replace all gear into pve gear, will this give me a huge damage increase? Will 5-boxing e.g. lichking-raids be a bit easier if my toons have pve gear instead?

I have completed the Twilight Heroics using ~ilvl 380-390 Blood DKs in full PVP gear, and 380-390 healer paladin in PVP gear.

I do however want a PVE set so I can raid with the dks too.

I might have misunderstood the thread buy if you want full pvp gear AND pve.. it's an option.
