I've been thinking on setting one up for my game(30 gb one or so) and before running off to buy alot of RAM i thought id ask here for your opinions of RAMdisk and what software you are using, and how well its working etc, it would be great to hear your own opinions of RAMdisk..

Im using the free ImDisk, and honestly it is a bit of a pain in the long run to execute a .bat file making the disk and then transferring wow onto the ramdisk at each startup.
I have tried with task schedule in windows to get it to do it by itself, but it doesn't seem to be working right, it does create the RAMdisk but it doesn't transfer the img file onto the disk.
The img file will reach 26-27gigs with the wow data folder, I'm pretty sure this is where the problem is for me atleast.

I think a good SSD-drive or two in raid-o will do the trick

When I purchased my system it was important with quick load times to keep my team in the same group in Battlegrounds. Two Intel X-25M in raid-0 was enough, my team always occupied the first 5 slots in all Battlegrounds.

I have 12 gigs of ram and have experimented with some games and ram-drive but I don't think it's as good as it sounds.. For one part SSD-drives already loads content really fast, and for the other part you still have to wait for everyone else..

I mean, you can load World of Tanks instantly but why bother? The game wont start for another full minute anyway. I think the same applies to WoW, you can load the raid instance instantly but you still have to wait for the rest of the group, for buffs, cooldowns etc.

I don't think even eliminating loading times completely will improve the gameplay much in WoW, there are so many other things that contribute more to waiting times..

If you do go for it then please let us know how it goes
But more expensive is not always better, I've spent hundreds of dollars on two Killer network cards before I gave them up - even onboard network cards worked way better than the Killer ones

The RAMdisk software i use at work is the same one i use at home, I done some testing with it, and the performance over 3ssd's in raid 0 was marginal so i didn't continue with it. But this version builds the drive, saves the image, and autoloads it for you on startup if you want. here is a link to it, they have a free trial too i think. make sure you get the desktop/workstation one and not the server one, the desktop version is a lot more powerful and robust.
