Default 64-Bit Client on PTR - Explain like I'm 5....

So a lot of people seem to be excited about the 64-bit client that is being tested on the PTR. I know what the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit OS is, but what is the difference between the two for clients? Anyone able to explain like I'm 5? Is this something that we should be waiting for with bated breath as multiboxers or will it not change anything for us?

In case it matters, I'm running a Core2Quad Q6600 and 6 GB of RAM on my system (Win7 64-bit).

I'm going to go ahead and guess... there isn't going to be much of a difference. The 64-bit client will be able to use more memory
when needed but, the LAA flag is already enabled on the 32-bit client soo.... I don't know.

Might have a bit more information.
Mostly it seems it will improve stability slightly

Great link and some good info there. So at 6GB of RAM and a SSD, I wouldn't see any benefit for using the 64-bit client while 5-boxing due to the client consuming more resources, right? My Mobo only supports 8GB of RAM with its 4 slots, so I've been toying with the idea of buying a couple more 2GB sticks and hitting the cap.

I doubt our 32-bit multiboxing programs would work with the 64-bit client; but, if they did then I would say the gain would
be minimal if even noticeable. Only time will tell, though.

Your motherboard supports dual-channel memory. By only filling 3 out of 4 banks you're not fully utilizing dual-channel. Will
dual-channel make a noticeable impact on your system? I honestly can't answer that on an older C2Q system.

I'm using 2 2gb sticks and 2 1gb sticks in my two paired sockets (all DDR2 800), FWIW. (It's a bit of a Frankenstein rig pieced together from parts lying around and upgrades acquired through the years)

Haha. Then you're good. Either way, 8GB should be better than 6GB while multiboxing.

I believe that the lua engine is one of the biggest benefactors of the 64bit change, garbage collection will be smashing fast. Hopefully we will see an update of of the lua engine itself soon as well. The last update was amazing for addon performance.

The new file optimization system could really be great for this as well, likely speeding up phasing as well.

Still amazes me that you can walk from undercity to bootybay without zoning in this game, unlike so many others.
