Default Returning and need a new PC

    Hey there,

I have been boxing a lot the last few years but stopped last year due to multiple reasons.

Now I am back and started to look for a new PC in addition to my current one (which should be able to handle 5x WoW for example). I know there are a lot of threads like this one, but I still hope you can help me out as I am not really up2date with the current hardware development.

    Here is my situation:

I want to get a PC that will last for a while and give me all possibilities looking at boxing multiple games with up to 5 instances on the machine.
Budget: Pretty much open end, I don't wanna spend a few hundred on a performance difference I hardly ever notice though

I am especially interested in the difference between the CPU's (i7-980 or i7-2600k or something else?) and the best motherboard and RAM components for it. I don't like Radeon, so I would simply go with one of the latest nVidia graphic cards.

An SSD with around 120GB should be sufficient with a normal big size HD.

Additionally my knowledge is pretty bad when it comes to cooling and the required case/PSU.

So yea, I could use your help. Every suggestion is welcome

Ok so due to quite some research and the help of other threads in this section (especially Ualaa and Lans' discussion a few threads below) I have put together a wishlist (on a German website, but you should be able to read the specs):

    http://www.alternate.at/html/wishlis...90012&id=80212

I don't care about the DVD drive, what I care about the most is that the system is not too loud.

    A few questions:
    1. I have read a lot about huge performance sinks of the OCZ Vertex3 SSD if it is used with the wrong controller. I _think_ it should be fine with my setup, what do you think?

    2. The PSU should be sufficient and "silent". I took a temporary PSU, maybe you can help me out with one that is sufficient and as quiet as possible?

    3. The prices compared to newegg for example are crazy high, but I would pay it. However, if you have a site which ships in EU and sells for lower than this one without too long shipping time, please share it

    4. Did I miss something? Any suggestions/tips? Every help is appreciated

I hope those questions might help you to help me

I've got the same motherboard, I think.
    Asus P8Z68-VPro.

My graphics card is also a GTX 570.
Mine is the 1GB version, so your 2GB will be better.

I'm using the same SSD, OCZ Vertex 3, 120GB as my boot drive.
The first one died after a couple of weeks.
My local store has a 4 year warranty (instant product replacement) plan, so I had a brand new one that day.
And the new one has been great.

    I've got the i5 2500K.
The i7 2600K is marginally faster, but has 4 logical cores to go with the 4 physical cores, which can help you multitask or stream better, etc.
    EverQuest I: Bard / Enchanter / Druid / Wizard / 2x Magician.
    Diablo III: 4x Crusader & 4x Wizard.

Yes I thought the additional RAM in the graphic card might help. I took the i7 over the i5 simply due to what you stated - possible streaming etc. Good to hear that the SSD is working out and overall it seems I am ready to order it.

Thanks for your reply, I think I am just gonna go with that setup

If you want ultra quiet, start here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/section18.html

Take a look at the components they use and pick up the same case/PSU/fans and you ought to be very close. That site also posts actual numbers, not just "OMG THIS CAES IST QUIET NES PAS?"
    Now playing: WoW (Garona)

Wow that one helped a lot too. I took the case, PSU and some "quiet" upgrades from there. Order is out now, gonna be ingame soon =)

    Thanks

Edit: For anyone who is interested (lol), that is what I took exactly:

Antec P183 V3 (ultra silent case, I also ordered the Gelid Tranquilo CPU cooler and AcoustiPack Acoustic sheets)
Antec High Current Pro HCP-1000 (1000 Watt) TN8AC1 (just in case)
Asus ENGTX570 DCII/2DIS/1280MD5 GTX 570 1280MB PCIe 2xDVI/HDMI/DP - Retail (I took the 1GB version in the end, after all it won't make that much of a difference to me)
    ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 GL/USB3.0/SATA600 Z68 Express ATX Sock1155
    Intel Core i7-2600k 4x3.4GHz 8MB-L3 Video/HD/Turbo Sock1155 (SandyBridge) BOX
    16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 CL9 (9-9-9-24) RAM DIMM Kit
    Seagate ST3500630NS Barracuda ES - 500GB 7200rpm 16MB 3.5zoll SATA300 - RC
    OCZ Vertex 3 Series SSD 120GB MLC 2.5zoll SATA600
    LiteOn iHAS124 DVD 24x DVD-R SATA black

Due to a friend I got the i7 pretty cheap, the costs for the PC are still around ~1400€ though (also because I took delivery speed as a priority over price)

You could always remove the drawers from your desk, put the computer inside and hinge a door on the cabinet if it really is such an ungodly sight.

I have mine behind my monitor
