    SWTOR is much reskinned wow as wow is a reskinned EQ.

    This reminds me of that discussion about stories, i.e. basically theres only so many archtypical stories, and all stories are some variation on some combination of them...from a quick google:

    1. 'Tragedy'. Hero with a fatal flaw meets tragic end. Macbeth or Madame Bovary.
    2. 'Comedy'. Not necessary laugh-out-loud, but always with a happy ending, typically of romantic fulfilment, as in Jane Austen.
    3. 'Overcoming the Monster'. As in Frankenstein or 'Jaws'. Its psychological appeal is obvious and eternal.
    4. 'Voyage and Return'. Booker argues that stories as diverse as Alice in Wonderland and H G Wells' The Time Machine and Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner follow the same archetypal structure of personal development through leaving, then returning home.
    5. 'Quest'. Whether the quest is for a holy grail, a whale, or a kidnapped child it is the plot that links a lot of the most popular fiction. The quest plot links Lords of the Rings with Moby Dick and a thousand others in between.
    6. 'Rags to Riches'. The riches in question can be literal or metaphoric. See Cinderella, David Copperfield, Pygmalion.
    7. 'Rebirth'. The 'rebirth' plot - where a central character suddenly finds a new reason for living - can be seen in A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, Crime and Punishment and Peer Gynt.

    Similar precept. somone writes something, detractors are like 'ITS BEEN DONE< OH WOE IS ME' well frankly, folks, the underlying principle is basically correct; everything that will be done, has been done, in every variation. so, if your out to be "the most unique human ever", well, might as well top yourself. of course, thats been done to death [heh] too.

    More specifically: so what. Wow borrowed, others borrowed. Wow continues to borrow. What does 'who did it first' matter? "feels like" well frankly, every MMO out there feels like EQ to me. Always will. Well, really, they feel like EQ-Lite. This isn't me pining for EQ, merely reflecting that my past experiences shape my reactions to the now.

    I think its different enought to be distinct; the idea of Heroic quests are kinda sorta similar to group quests and daily quests but are, I think, their own little flavor. Sure, a flashpoint feels kinda like any old instance, but to me, black talon felt refreshingly new and different. [more , 'mission' oriented than 'go here, kill mobs']

    The place they really differ is companions, companions are done basically right, I think. My only complaint is the whole 'taking a group slot, mini replacement player' bit. Sure, powerful companions is nice, but I'd rather have slightly weaker companions that get more mileage out of, tho I suspect that that is a boxer point of view. They feel kinda weak as is, when fighting content tuned for 4 players. [maybe its the fact that I'm making do without a proper tank, though.]

    meh.

    I always liked the arrow and spell physics of Asheron's Call. I haven't seen that repeated in an MMO. Just single player games like Skyrim.

    It doesnt bother me for some reason.

    Half the stuff that makes it "too much like WoW" people would complain about if it didnt have.

    After playing WoW off and on since 2004 i felt completely comfortable with hotkeys / the UI starting up SWTOR the first time.

    I think at this point unless you've got some majorly innovative ideas, the formula isnt broken, dont touch it.

    P.S. We will get wookies not pandas.

    I'm not sure how to accurately convey what I meant by my first post. I realise that all MMOs have certain aspects and features that are similiar to predecessors.

    What I am trying to say is it "feels" like I am playing WoW. I have played every MMO mentioned in this thread so far and SWTOR feels so similiar to WoW. MMOs like Lineage and Guild Wars just feel so much different when you play them, far different than playing DAoC and EQ which came before. Another is FFXI and even FFIV, while both games are similiar to each other, they felt a hell of a lot different than any other MMO on the market.

    FEAR is nothing like BF3 when I play it. Yup, they both involve using wsad to move, mouse to aim, click left button to fire, etc, but they're incredibly different games.

    I was playing it more yesterday and another thing that bugs me are these silly execution scenes. My Sith Warrior has executed 3 people so far and every single time it's the same swiping downward motion. It's so PG rated! I wanna see some decapations, or people split in half a la Star Wars Episode 1.
