I don't imagine there's a reason you can't do the same thing in SWTOR that I've recommended for years in WoW -- point your slave cameras straight downward. Is there a limitation here I'm not aware of? (I didn't try that in beta and I wont be in early access to try it now)
The camera remains fixed at all times if you are not actively using movement keys to move your character. When you do use movement keys, the camera orients to the direction it is looking. So if you were running north and your camera was chasing north and then you take an easterly turn. The camera will continue to look north. If you tap forward on movement keys, your character will snap north and move in that direction.
It's been almost a year since I boxed WoW but what I remeber is that more than the orientation of the camera, there was a way to put all toons into a default camera distance (preset I think).
That's good to know about orientation, problem solved but I do believe we need to set the same camera distance to have accurate aoe ground targeting.
