I doubt it. I was under the impression you had a team you were attempting to gear up.

If you have some geared toons, and some not geared toons.
Group them together and run them through Hyjal/Vashj'ir quests.

The quests are designed for solo toons, at 80th with basically quest level gear.
A group of 4/5 almost naked 80's (from boosting, granting, etc) would likely have at least the firepower of a single fresh to 80th toon (and no pvp/raid gear).
If for some reason things are difficult, sub in toons with gear to group with those without.

I wouldn't recommend defending the starting cave.

It can give boxers a bad reputation, and blizzard does infrequently confiscate gear from those who AFK BG's.
Stick with the swarm, protection in numbers.
A 2-minute trinket is probably the best item to go for first; after that a two-piece set bonus.

If your toons have the capability of a healer off-spec, I'd go that route.
Even if you're gearing Ret Pallies, Feral Druids or Elem. Shamans...
Run in healer spec, stick with the swarm, and heal.
Definitely purchase pvp gear for the spec you'll be running, not the healer role.

I started doing AV in my questing gear from grinding 80-85 as I described higher up. And in very limited crafted PVP gear was ended up being 4-5 of the top 10 damage almost every BG. By staying grouped + totems + thunderstorming warriors/DKs/kittys/rogues you should be able ot rofle stomp to some quick honor for gear up.

Now that being said. Do not buy the level 80 PVP gear. It is crap with the availability of level 77-80 green cata gear you will pick up in Hyjal doing quests. With in the first 10-20 quests you will get 2-4 gear up drops that will come very close to beating the level 80 WOTLK gear you could get with honor. I did most of hyjal replacing my level 70 pvp gear with items that were much much better. The level 80 arena gear costs too much to be replaced in a week when you want you honor for some 384/390 gear.
