    Default Wormholes

So I just scanned out a wormhole, and despite knowing better, I'm about to head through. I'm only taking one character and one ship that I can afford to lose. The ship is fitted for ratting and missions with some small tweaks for safety: cloaking device and probe launcher. I figure I will head in, get to a safe, cloak, and see what i can find out there. Eventually I'll try and make my way back to K space, but if I lose the ship I'm not gonna sweat it. The hole is in Augnais if anyone is interested.

Anyone else have experience with W space yet? Thoughts, tips, questions?

Encounters tend to scale depending on the size of ships you bring into the area. A general rule of thumb is that if there are more than two sleepers of your size in an engagement then you are going to need more firepower.

Many of the systems effect your ship attributes both in negative and positive ways e.g. increased shield capacity, decreased capacitor size, increased agility etc.

Reward and risk are generally greater as k-space sec status decreases, but that does not mean that a wormhole found in highsec could not contain some juicy t3 or minerals

Local chat is delayed (i.e. you don't show in local chat unless you speak) so first course of action any time you jump through is directional scanning across the system - w-space is essentially 0.0 so you may find nasty bastards like me lurking around looking for targets :P

That's all i can think of off the top of my head, i dont believe that there is a concise FAQ on the eve forums for wormhole exploration, if someone knows of one get it posted

If anyone isn't clear on scanning out wormholes I can write a quick guide.

Hmm, didn't know you would show in local if you spoke. Of course I have no intention of announcing my presence. I'm going to happily sit cloaked as I scan out the place using combat scanner probes and see if there is anything I can pull off in a Myrmidon. I could always bring more ships through, but not sure I want to risk anything until I know there is something worth risking it for.

One really cool app i found for wormhole exploration is called 'wormholethingie'.
Basically you enter the system name you're in and it shows you what class of wormhole it is (1-6). Flying solo into a site at anything >2 is pretty much suicide and since some of the sleepers in there warp scramble it's good to know beforehand if one might survive it at all

    edit: thingie not thingy

Yea. They are nasty. I went in with a Myrmidon and barely made it out alive.

    [ 2009.04.13 03:06:54 ] (combat) Sirius barely scratches you, causing 431.9 damage.

I'd hate to see a wrecking shot from them. All in all the wormholes were interesting, but not anything I think I can benefit from. I ended up scanning down some exploration sites and using my Invention character to hack the data stores. Got a couple decryption programs out of it, so that was nice. Also got a tier 5 belongings, they sell for 180k on the market, so that was a nice bonus.

    Default W-Space Fleet fittings

Time to get out my necro-rez gloves and work some magic...

In an attempt to relieve my MR boredom, started working towards a nomadic fleet for w-space ops. I already have a toon with maxed scanning skills, so this seemed like a reasonable idea. Anyway, the setup I've finally decided on should handle Class 1-3 holes, possibly even Class 4. Fits are as follows:

    [Tengu Prober/Salvager/Aggro-Manager(Tank)]
    Capacitor Power Relay II
    Capacitor Power Relay II
    Ballistic Control System II

    Large Shield Extender II
    Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
    ECM - Spatial Destabilizer II
    ECM - Spatial Destabilizer II
    Analyzer I
    Codebreaker I

Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher, Sisters Core Scanner Probe I
    Prototype Cloaking Device I
    Medium Shield Transporter II
    Salvager II
    Auto Targeting System II
    Small Tractor Beam I
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile

    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II
    Medium Anti-Explosive Screen Reinforcer II
    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II

    Tengu Defensive - Adaptive Shielding
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay
Tengu Electronics - Emergent Locus Analyzer
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
    Tengu Propulsion - Gravitational Capacitor

    [Tengu, WH DPS]
    Ballistic Control System II
    Ballistic Control System II
    Ballistic Control System II
    Ballistic Control System II

    Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
    Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
    Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II
    Explosion Dampening Amplifier II
    Large Shield Extender II

    Prototype Cloaking Device I
    Medium Shield Transporter II
    Auto Targeting System II
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile

    Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
    Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II

    Tengu Defensive - Adaptive Shielding
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay
Tengu Electronics - CPU Efficiency Gate
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
    Tengu Propulsion - Gravitational Capacitor

    Some Stats with Lvl5 skills:
    Shield HP: 7469
    Resists(EM/Therm/Kin/Ex): 78/85/78/76 [Prober], 81/85/88/80 [DPS]
    Defense - 4 reppers: [Prober] 1577HPS, [DPS] 1627HPS
    Cap Stable: 50%[Prober], 56% [DPS]
    Firepower: 448DPS, 1715 Volley [DPS]
Targeting: 8 targets max up to 81Km

I plan on a 5-man fleet, one Prober and 4 DPS. Chose the Tengu for the Kinetic Dmg bonus and 'cause most my girls were already max skilled with missiles. Also, BS-sized ships will not fit through Class 1 holes and since I'll be roaming, I'd rather not skip anything if possible. Jammers are to encourage Sleepers to target my tank, thou I'm not sure how this will work with the remote reppers? Auto targeters are for the 3 extra target slots when fitted (these modules will remain inactive). All fleet members will target all other fleet members in case aggro isn't held by the tank. Passive resists are for the event when Sleepers start Neuting, as is the 50% Cap stability with the RR running.

I welcome any comments and suggestions

    Default T1 W-Space Fleet Fitting

I tried to come up with a T1 version of my W-Space Tengu Fleet and couldn't find a suitable ship to fill the prober/salvager/tank role so I'm sticking with the Tengu for that role. Here's a Drake Fit for the DPS:

    [Drake, W-Space DPS]
    Power Diagnostic System II
    Ballistic Control System II
    Ballistic Control System II
    Co-Processor II

    Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
    Heat Dissipation Amplifier II
    Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II
    Explosion Dampening Amplifier II
    Large Shield Extender II
    Large Shield Extender II

Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
    Medium Shield Transporter II
    Prototype Cloaking Device I

    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
    Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
    Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

    Stats at Lvl5
    Shield HP: 14069
    Shield Resists (EM/Therm/Kin/Ex): 71/68/76/80
    Defense: 867HPS[Tengu Prober], 870[DPS]
    Cap Stable at 55%
    Firepower: 352DPS, 2367 Volley
Max 8 targets up to 75Km

The problems I found with using a T1 ship for the prober/salvager/tank role is that the Expanded Probe Launcher uses up too much CPU. So, If I plan this on an armor-boat, the armor tank suffers (Myrmidon, Prophecy, etc.). Another issue is the number of mids required to take advantage of Hacking/Salvage sites + Aggro control. You can fit everything, minus the jammers, on a drake and still have a very acceptable tanking capability on all the boats. But, without the aggro control, you'd constantly be switching who needs rep, or so I imagine. Anyway, this fleet setup should be able to handle Class 1-3.

Good luck folks. The problem with wormhole space isn't the sleepers, it's the other players. The majority of the ships that I lost were in combat sites where you're going to attempt to make your fortune, and they were always to players that I never saw coming. Weekends are especially bad as the Russian gank squads come out. Multiboxing PvE is hard enough versus sleepers (assuming battleships which I used to do in a spider tanked battleship fleet), but players are really gonna ruin your day. An empty wormhole these days is just a wormhole with someone you haven't seen yet (who really really wants to kill you).

W-Space survival is going afield from what I had posted above on fittings. To survive gank-attacks is possible, just set your directional scanner to 360 degrees, max range and scan every 5 sec or more. If you see a probe, immediately head to a safe spot 'cause you ain't alone anymore.

You don't need probes to find combat sites, you can find them with just the scanner. Good luck!
