Thread: Something new

    Default Something new

    Hey everyone!

So it's been a couple months since the site ownership change and as promised, nothing has really changed around here and you've all carried on your business as usual.

I have something really cool to share that I've been working on for dual-boxing.com. I think it's really cool anyway. And I hope you guys will too. Feedback so far has all been positive. I'm going to try to do this quietly so that too many people don't rush it at once (hence not front paging this or the link yet)... it hasn't blown up yet, but we'll see. It's still kinda a work in progress, but it's far enough along for you to join in!

I call it.... The Commons: http://www.dual-boxing.com/commons

What is The Commons? The Commons is an area, tied to your dual-boxing.com forum account, for multiboxers of *many games* to share their characters and teams, screenshots and videos. Other multiboxers -- and our rivals who decide to log in -- can vote and comment on everything including your favorite servers or whine on your team page if you killed them. Your characters and teams can be tagged in your videos and screenshots, so that when viewing your screenshot you get links back to the characters, or when viewing your characters you get links to the screenshots they're in. You can search the content, filter it by games, check out everything on specific realms, etc. You can also permanently delete anything you add to The Commons.

Some games provide an API for communities like ours to show additional information about characters and things in that game. So far we're keyed for the the WoW community API (multiboxing is, after all, not prohibited), and using the EVE Online non-keyed API to check character names (might add the other public information as well - character profile picture, bloodline, etc). It's not hooked up to any API for any other game, so any suggestions are welcome. You can still add your characters and teams for other games, we just won't have the extra data.

Anyway, it'll be great fun, and it'll help connect us multiboxers together in new ways!

    Your feedback is humbly requested.

Can't wait to utilise this, could be potentially awesome, good luck to it.

So far so good. Make sure you add the characters first before making the team or it may fail the team creation.

This will be a nice addition to the website. BZ Lax.

Edit: I tried adding 10 characters at once and it only took the first five. Spelling was correct. Added the rest as groups of five with no incident.

Looks great LAX - any way of laying out top content smaller for smaller monitors (like mine), especially the +/-?

Also, why call it internet points, why not LAX points?

Definitely needs work, but looks very promising.

You have a record of putting out quality, so just keep doing what you're doing.

LAX = The next Steve Jobs! You release quality content I have faith in its success much like ISBoxer!

Looks great, keep it up, sure once the beta is over and the Commons is in 1.0, Millions of multiboxers (lol that'd be nice) will come from around the globe to come sit back, and chill in the Commons!

You should consider is making an IPhone/IPad, and other smartphones App so people can post and view the Commons content from their smartphone device. I'm sure that would probably take some time to get put together as there is much to work on still.

    lol.

Well, when I requested the wow API key I did mention that people we kill might like to search for our teams and say mean things to us over the internet (in comments, or by voting, etc). Google already indexed The Commons recently, so if you were to google for, say, atox multiboxer, the top hit is your character in The Commons: http://www.dual-boxing.com/commons/w...ostmourne/Atox and now that person can whine at you and/or vote if they log in. Or maybe they're just curious and they can check out your screenshots, etc. Link away.

Anyhow, The Commons seems to be going well so far, so I might spread the link a bit more. Several people have posted their characters, teams and screenshots, and everyone seems to like MiRai's IWT video
