Default 5 Mages - Where to start at 85

I'm on vacation this next week so plan to get my 83 mages to 85.

I haven't done any of the cata dungeons yet, but will need to do some to upgrade my gear and continue to learn this whole new way of boxing - sans a tank and healer.

There are a few of you out there running 5 mage teams and I know Multibocks is doing amazing things, therefore my desire to try this and see what I can accomplish.

I'm having a bit of trouble with the whole ring of frost use so far, but I'm sure I'll get that down.

So my questions are, since I'll just be in quest gear, where should I start gearing up and what should I shoot for?

Which instances are more easy (with sheepable targets) than others?

I ran a couple of WotLK dungeons on heroic and had a mage or two die along the way, but the bosses were actually easier than some of the trash.

So - in a nutshell - does anyone have a suggested course of action? Or should I work on the faction rewards first?

    Thanks as always,

I'm not sure if you want to "cheat" your way to some faster upgrades. What i did was make two teams ( i have 6 lvl85 mages ) But this will work for 5. Both teams had my paly tank and resto sham healer+ 3 mages. Since I was going to be farming FL trash I knew i needed hit. So I farmed the first boss in HoO for the hit trinket. Once I got it on all 6 mages i had enough JPs to buy some gear. I then used the same two teams And maxed out JPs for normal instances for the week on each team. You see the point.

I know your goal is to just play the mages. If you do that I would do the Hygl quests.. at the end of one of them you get a nice epic cloak. Then do the dailies as well, you will end up with an epic neck in a few days. If you have money to burn, pick up some epics on the AH. For rep grinding, put on your tabard and just go to any heroic instance with sheepable trash and kill/loot/reset.

Another option is to PvP for gear.
Currently 5 Boxing 5 Protection Paladins on Whisperwind Alliance

Sadly PVP gear is extremely good for pve arcane mages. First boss you should try in heroic mode is Corborus. I kill him in 10 secs. However 3rd and last boss of that instance are a bitch

    Thanks - I'll start here.

Lyonheart - I have the cloak from Hyjal already - finished all those quests. Will do the rep grind though!

I'm horrible at PVP - what would you suggest?

If you want to gear your mages fastest... get a hit trinket like the others said and reforge hit on the season 10 starter pvp set to start. That is more than enough SP/Crit etc to at least let you farm trash.

From there do 3 mages at a time and gear them to the teeth
