Thread: EQ Team

  1. #1

    Default EQ Team

I have been messing around with a Druid and a Pally on Fippy and have found it pretty slow and clunky. However after years of boxing a very polished WOW team the bar is set pretty high.

Given the lag I see with /assist and /target I am not sure if a mixed team is the best choice.

Honestly I am thinking of doing

    Pally as Tank/Puller
Enchanter for Slows and Mana Crack
    then 4 Druids.

I see druids almost like shamans from WOW. When you think about it they can nuke, dot, heal, aoe, and on top of all that you can travel faster also.

I would basically do Two High Elves and 4 Wood Elves so they all start in the same area.

I see holding a camp something like this.

Pall pulls using Lull so I can break camps.

Pull comes in Pally uses stuns to hold aggro. Chanter slows and nukes. Druids do a mix of dots, snare, and nukes. When the tank needs some love he gets hit by four healing spells. I can have the duids do a combo of hots, heals, and insta heals.

As much as I would like to get a cleric in there I think the burn potential of a group like this is pretty high for single or even AOE situations. With the mix of hots, instants, and some big bomb heals I could heal through just about anything. The Pally can hold group aggro real well by using group heal spells.

What do you guys think I would love to hear from some EQ boxers both current and past. Please keep in mind I am on Fippy so I can't use mercs.

Unless they have changed things, Mage pets are way OP. During my time on Fippy, I tried a mixed group of SHD, CLR, ENC, WIZ, MAG, SHM and did not have very good results.

Then I made a 5 Mage and CLR group and started mowing down mobs. Dungeons were still tough due to aggro issues (nothing like an errant mage pet bringing back a pack of 20 mobs). If you are looking just to goof around, I'd try the 5x Mage + CLR route.

Primary team - 4 Blood DK, Disc Priest (110, ilvl 880-ish)

I have actually seen a lot of AFK mage groups leveling. Basically a boxer has 3 or 4 afk mages sitting at a blue spawn and then a couple of utlility classes.

However I really want the ability to SOW and Port + group evac never hurts. I did see some box crews while I was there they were usually running some type of tank and then 5 of the same character.

Gomotron how far did you go with your group and why did you quit in the end?

Well I only got to around level 10 with the mixed group. Got to 20 with the mage team.

The reason I quit was the same reason I quit in the first place: the GRIND. I forgot how bad it was. I would have tried sticking it out for longer but when you added in the archaic user interface, it got to be too much.

I have just kicked off but with a full group bonus + RAF + exp pots I am getting like 8x normal exp so it is going pretty quick. However I imagine the novelty will wear off at some point and I will probably end up quitting. What kept me boxing in WOW so long was the MB guild I was in and friends I had made there over the years. I don't know anyone on Fippy however the wonder of the Common lands Bazaar, starting naked, CB, BB, Unrest all that type of stuff has really sucked me back in again.

The Pally, ENC, 4 x Druid team is working great. I have the druids in almost all their newb gear quest stuff and the pally is in random drops from mobs I have killed. I have been thinking of selling a game card for plat, apparently SOE does not officially support that but since the money stays with them they don't stop it, but I feel like that kind of undermines what the TLP servers are all about.

The RAF alone has me tempted to restart a team.

Nice thing is you RAF chain and for the price of one month everyone gets two months. So you go buy 6 game cards at walmart for 90 bucks then you get all six accounts for two months. Assuming you are doing TLP if not just do 3 accounts and run mercs.

It's been a LONG time since I boxed eq but I did it with a Paladin tank/puller, Ranger, and a bard. Somewhere around level 45-55 it fell apart because the paladin's lull spell quit working. I leveled them together by running the lost dungeons of norrath private instances.

Things are probably different now, but check to see if the paladins lull scales as far as you want it to.

From what I was told Pallies make the best pullers until 55 then SKs or Monks do better however the Pacification pull works fine. My team setup is this.

    Pally
    Chanter
    Cleric
    3 Druids

I figure if I mess up a pull I get close to the group die then rez up. After I have broken a camp it should be easy. With that setup I can heal everyone with the push of a button and I will work on mezzing a bit later.

I have thought about dropping a druid and running a monk. FD pulling is pretty sweet. The 3x RAF when lower level is awesome too. I started a cleric and added him to the group making 6 and he caught up to the rest of the group in about 2 hours.
