My only response to this game (and its kind of a lollore response) is... I dont get how normal people are supposed to compare to the jedi?

Say I'm a top level "soldier" (i forget exactly the heavy weapons dudes class name)... so whats that indicate? I know some nice tricks, i am a really good shot with my weapon, and i have access to additional equipment.

Whats to stop a level 1 jedi from coming over and force choking me or force pushing me off a cliff or something? If I get the drop on them, OK but other than that....

Thats what ive never understood about these star wars games.

Yeah, thats understandable and I see how that can be the general view by people, and the movies kind of portrayed the jedi and sith as jesus and ronald mcdonald, two baddest mother fuckers in town.

But if you start to read all of the story and all that, not just the hollywood block busters it kinda of sets the tone that yes force sensitive people are great warriors, but so are bounty hunters and troopers and the agents an things of the like. in other forms of star wars lore standard jedi and sith were equal and par with other forms of awesomeness...

now dark lords and fluffybunny Jedi, they are very powerful, those were your emperor, and vader and luke... kind of like the uh.. i cant think of the wow dudes... i will say OrcBoss#1 and AllianceLeader#3.

It's there if you dig deep enough, but some people just arent in to star wars lore, they just saw the movies and thought meh thats kinda dumb, and thats totally ok.

I recommend reading the lost tribe of the sith, and perhaps like star wars: the old republic: deceived IF you want to get a handle on the lore.

If not, then may the uh... azeroth... be with you

Great source of lore which explains a lot of balance understanding between normal people and the Jedi/Sith are the old D6 Star RPG books, from WEG (who is no longer around). I think wizards makes the new rpg books which have some of the old stuff just adapted to their style. They are great reads, and explain a lot.

What is to stop a mage/magic user in WOW from throwing a frost/firebolt at at warrior from 90 yards and just killing him in one shot? The melee guy has no way to stop that with his shield or armor.....Wait...
He can spell reflect, he can get in range since magic users have a range on their spells, can use intercept/charge and pummel. Hmm, things that might not be in normal nature, but are in the game. Same thing for this. Mabye in theory a jedi can do stuff that would insta-gank you, but in game, there are time limits on the time for choke. And you have to build up power (think combo points or rage or runic power) to use force push. Then things can make sense in game that might not in theory only.

Answer your own question Electron, Im not familiar enough with Star Wars lore. I am one of those "only seen the movies" folks.

Whats to stop that from happening in WoW? The abilities that they've provided within the universe for warriors.

Perhaps the same is true for Star Wars, I am admittedly ignorant of deep lore (can only go by what Ive seen).
I never saw anything to indicate that if Luke wanted to (say he "went to the dark side") he couldn't have destroyed any number of Han Solos.

Im not anti star wars at all im just saying. Im not even a really big "story" or lore guy, not the type to let something like that stop me from playing a game. I just dont get it (especially from a game that it touting its enhanced stories as a feature).

I hope its awesome and me bringing this up seems foolish in hindsight.

Chewy would have bashed Luke's brains across the room while Luke was choking Solo.

    LOL, I love that.

Yeah, in theory people can do stuff that seems overpowered. But the game will have rulesets and conditions that stop that. What stops a rogue from just backstabbing you every .001 secs and you die.. Well, GCD is one thing, and his energy is another. I haven't played SWTOR yet. But imagine that a jedi has a energy bar just like a rogue. Imagine that a jedi can do powers, but only after he charges up something with smaller spells (think ramp up time with WOW chars), similar to rogue's combo points.

Imagine that a bounty hunter (ranged and jumping ability) could just jump up and keep attacking you, but you can't jump up and hit him (you are melee). He could just kite you and kill you. Yeah, that can happen, it is a counter to you, but you are probably a counter to something else. At least that is how I hope they do things. SW Galaxies supposedly had a OP class (jedi) and that didn't work out so well. WOW has even had times with classes OP. I just hope they notice it and fix it.

For me, it feels different than WOW. It has a different playstyle (choose good or bad). Maybe I am just deluding myself and can't spell, so good and bad in SWTOR is just rep from WOW. Same thing just spelled differently. How they respond to things that people want is what matters to me. 6 Years to get an "apperance tab" is too long. 6 years to get a LFR interface is too long. 6 Years to allow crazy more storage is too long. I hope SWTOR can make changes faster.
