    Default hunter macro problem..

    Howdy,

    Been using a single button BM macro for a while now, and I'm having a problem with it lately, especially on the target dummy. It appears to hang for up to 6 or 7 seconds, during which time I only do autoshots, even if spamming the macro. I've been adding more haste as I gear up, and I'm wondering if there's some possible problem there.

    Here's what I'm using.. any ideas?..

    It's based on something I picked up here, and have modified it a bit to adjust for my focus regen. Is it just the haste causing the issue? Or do I have a typo in there?

    (I'm hitting all my cooldowns that are not listed in the macro, BW, etc, manually).

    This problem might have started with 4.2, and the only other changes beside more haste via gear was speccing out of Careful Aim and putting those points into Pathing, which again gives more haste.

    Also, I'm speccing SV for some fights, but with some recent gear upgrades, my dps on the dummy went down. (doing 16.5k on the dummy) I'm wondering if the haste gain (at the expense of mastery) might be the culprit, as the macro doesn't allow me to take advantage of the haste. Here's what I'm using for SV. (Note, this combo does not hang, but there still seems to be a dps loss from prior to my gear upgrades).

    So.. something hanging due to haste? the two-button macros not factoring in the haste plateaus? Should I try swapping back to mastery-heavy if I'm using the macros?.. Could the additional haste be causing clipping of BA?

    Pull out the individual spells from your spellbook and place them on a visible hotbar.
    Put up a copy of your macro somewhere that you can see it.
    Press your macro and compare the macro step vs how the individual spells are firing off.

    That should point you to exactly where in the macro is locking up.

    I dunno if it matters... but I use the "castsequence reset=#" I dont use the "castsequence reset=combat"

    Have you tried "14" for your first macro? does it work then? BTW, your spelling and marks are all correct.

    should there be the comma after combat in the castsequence,i have never seen it done that way

    i would have put mine as

    with just a space,does it make a differance comma there or not?havent had time to try it yet myself

    Thanks for the tips sofar. Trying several of the options, and still trying to debug the BM rotation. Something still isn't right there.

    On another note.. got rid of all my reforging for haste (restoring all defaults except for one piece to maintain hit cap), and noticed a definite improvement of 500-1000dps. Need to do some more testing, but will try reforging for mastery next, and see if the trend continues.

    The upshot is that for macroed rotations, the theoretical haste ideals might not be the best way to go.

    According to Elitist Jerks, haste effects the speed of Cobra Shot.

    If your macro is locking out for "6 or 7 seconds", there's only 2 places it can lock up. Focus Fire and Kill command. Arcane and Cobra Shots do not have cooldowns. I suspect one point where it locks up is when the macro starts over since there's only 2 cobra shots and an arcane shot between 2 Kill commands. I'd try adding another Arcane Shot to the end of the macro so it reads "Focus Fire, Kill Command, Cobra Shot, Arcane Shot, Cobra Shot".

    On top of that, you are getting another Haste boost from Focus Fire, which means the shots may be timed fine for the first time through the macro, but after you hit that first Focus Fire, your macro is forever going to be off. Therefore, I suggest adding in a fall-through shot to fill in those gaps.

    Or using a two-button macro to have a mini castsequence that throws in added Arcane and Cobras as needed

    I hope this is not a stupid question, but why the ", " before Arcane shot?

    yep Machoclown i mentioned the same thing a couple of posts up..but as no ones commented on it i presume it works that way too..still not had a chance to try that way myself yet..i always just leave a space../shrugs

    Wow doesn't read commas as a command, it shouldn't matter if the sequence starts with one. The game should just ignore it and look for the spells, just like it does with the old click macros that used lods of commas for timing.

    So, I'm back... I tried several of the things that were suggested, and it fixed them to various results, often fixing the locking, but also resulting in lower dps. So I tried something for BM like the SV one, and I think I have something that works...

    That seems to allow for a full run without locking up, AND (this is key) allows for the control over the ratio of Arcane to Cobra to provide the proper amount of focus without capping out or going dry. I did several variations and the double arcane seems to provide more dps, and the extra cobra at the end is needed for the regen.

    If anyone else finds this useful, you may need to adjust the # of Arcanes and Cobras based on your haste/regen.

    My SV is basically the same as my initial post.

    Both the SV and the BM macros put out about 17.5k dps on the dummy with using my cooldowns when they come up (thats a 5-minute burn).
