this brings back memories.

tanking in EQ is very much dependant on what class you are tanking with, very old school EQ in essence only allowed for Warriors to be end game tanks, it was pretty much the only option and noone could compete.

Unfortunately they ironically were very bad at it since "old school" tanking in EQ was dependant on how much dmg u did at some point monk class in EQ became better tanks then warriors which lead to the famous monk nerf where there dmg mitigation was in essence removed and replaced by dmg advidance.

anyway, since you ask the way you do i assume you play a warrior, yaks would be good but the proc they do is a pushback which is very anoying in EQ so scrap that.

at the beginning go for Velium weaps, they are pretty fast, main hand should always be as fast as possible, speed 20 or less.

Also lowbie tanking in EQ use the legendary BoC, Blade of carnage, it was the 1st weapon in EQ that procced enraging blow.

Sole purpose of enraging blow was that it added to the aggro counter and since then alot of new items have this ability or with the systems you can add this ability to weapons with "gems"

if you dont play as a warrior then it doesnt matter, paladin, shadow knight TANKS use 1h shield or 2h but their tanking is based on spells to generate aggro not the weap even if good weapons help.

I am not 100 percent uptodate on the latest in EQ but to my knowledge last time i logged on this was still valid xp grind info.

Warriors can tank with 2h and can do crazy dmg then as well, but its very much dependant on the proc of the weapon then. If you dont have a high aggro generating high proc rate 2h then you will kill everyone else due to crap tanking.
