Skip collection quests 60+ unless it's a great reward or ubr chain with phat lewt. 66-70 Grind in Sethekk Halls you're going to need the rep anyways Then go back out and do all the 66-70 quests @70 for mass gold.

I've spent hours doing collection quests times 5. One reason, rep, I want a different epic ground on each toon when i can gather the money. The other reason is, instances are preferred, they rarely have resources beyond cloth in them. So while I might spend hours doing collections, that's 5 mithril/truesilver/gold mines I might have missed, at an average or minimum. It's a ton of leather, flowers and random drops that i might otherwise not have found. It's a tradeoff. But playing the game, sort of in the 'intended' way is fun to me.

I sometimes go back and do grey quests just for the rep alone. It's crazy fast. Some I've skipped, I can recommend skipping the lightforge ingot, part of the morbent fel questline. That was pretty near an hour, and most all swimming. Even with water breathing, it's s l o o o w. Lining up the 4 shamans and doing the 4 x earthshock (a/k/a shotgun), easily 'single' shotted mobs, but meh. Even the shaman specific reagents barely made that one worthwhile.

Taking my time, experiencing content, some I might never have before is fun. I'm at 47 with about 8 days played. I'm not feeling this x level to y level experience void others have repeatedly commented on. I still have to go back and do arathi, but I've finished nearly each zone, as I have in the past. Although I'm writing off theramore, as many of those quests result in no rep. The mines are too scarce. And I have levelled past mats I might have needed, by the time I started it. I still ahve to finish rfd since I got the gear I wanted pre bring the light quest was available. But that 500 sw rep is too nice to avoid.

I'm more feeling a rep pinch, as only the human is SW exalted. So, I know I skipped all of westfall, but I am really needing to finish the SW exalted, then one Dar and one IF. Which as I go back to the start or grey zones, I'll likely only do one char for collections, and share all quests that are kill. As long as one toon is exalted with one of the 3 missing, different, I'll be set. I still need honored with Timbermaw, just for the two ench patterns, and w/e other prof patterns (though I'll never make/equip them)

Since I'm over fond of lengthy posts, it's a game. If it's fun and legal do it.

Don't mean to bring this thread back from the dead, but I had this exact same question. I have been struggling through Mulgore doing the starting quests, I am almost level 10 on my 4 shaman. Collecting 32 swoop feathers almost made my head explode. 32 Harpy claws as well. The very thought of collecting 240 Bristleback Tusks in The Barrens make me feel slightly sick to my stomach. I think I will hit up RFC at 12 though and see how that works.

Does anyone know of an addon or another clever way to manage collection quests? Unless I swap windows I have trouble seeing how many of each that I still need.

Not in Mulgore. Some of the quests in there just suck. The swoop feather one is particularly painful.

Oh, I just remembered something. If you're mostly questing, as hunters you will quickly outlevel your pets. So, for you all-hunter boxers, I'd say do some of the collection quests when you see your pet lagging behind.

The only collection quests worth doing as a 5-boxer I think are:

    1) Extremely high drop rate (virtually 1 for 1).
    2) Start of an extremely good kill-quest chain.

Beyond that, in the 1-60 trip with heightened XP gain now, as others have said, they can all be dropped on the ground, spat on, stomped on, and generally treated as the contemptible time sinks they really are.

I would agree that they are a complete waste of time, but having said that... are they worth doing in the starting zones, on your way to 1-12? I know with my Druids the Tauren starting area is absolutely hammered with collection quests which will become tiring, but, should I be doing them, or just work on some kind of grind out of the starting area? I would like to stay in Mulgore since Druid trainers are located there, but with such a massive amount of collection, I might go crazy.

    Thanks

Kyle - I know how you feel since my Shamans are Taurens. It's just one collection quest after another in Mulgore. Really your only option there is to go walking off to the Orc starting area in Valley of Trails (which is also collection-quest heavy anyway) or suck it up and get through it. Once you have zone options it gets better. The Undead starting zone is not so bad, but your walk to it is going to be even longer (short of buying a UC port).
