Default Ping vs. Access Time vs. FPS

I am trying to get my mind around if having access to textures faster then your ping time is of use, maybe others can get a grip on this.

Ping is 100ms FPS is 50 fps

    0ms I need texture for toon A

    20ms I need to draw frame 1
    40ms Frame 2
    60ms Frame 3
    80ms Frame 4
    100ms I need texture for toon B and toon C Frame 5

    etc.

200ms no new toons in view
    300ms I need texture for toon D

Ok you need texture access to be less then your FPS rate .... using 50fps as a round figure you need 20ms access time. If you want to see new characters maximumly fast.

Even in Org at prime time you don't encounter new characters at a rate faster then 100 per second by any means. Lets say a resonable 25 per second. Say 2 per your 50fps to pick a number out of the air....

some guy brags about 40ms reaction time

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DneL2Bf2STA

Does the game render characters it does not have full textures on? Has anyone seen a character with missing shoulder pads for example that then appeared 20ms later .... well we can't see that fast ok.

Lets see your ping rate is the rate at which your world changes but I am sure that you will interpolate postional data between frames.

But no matter how fast your reaction time or computer access time is your ping will be a limit.

Ping time minus 40ms minus access time should be greater then zero if you want to be at maximum. The faster your reaction time the slower your access time can be.

Access time faster then Ping minus 40ms gets you no gain when dealing with a single new character in view.

Faster Access times will let you see more characters sooner if many come into view at same instant (a common enough occurance in pvp).

If the game renders partial charcters (i.e. a naked eneny with name tag above him), before the textures are complete then your access time can basically be anything lol ...

The question isn't when can you see the enemy its when can you target the enemy. I can't see how you could target faster then your ping, cause how would the server resolve /target faster then your ping, well it can't.

    Ok time for a break.
