I totally cheese Calyx. I run 3x chloromancer 1x archon and justicar tank so I park my justicar in the center and the other 4 spread out on the edges and just nuke away and heal over the beams/freeze. My justicar has a spam cure macro in his attack spell so he immediately cures the ice block on the chloros/archon and it's about 2 minutes of boredom spamming nukes and flourishing over the frozen wrath, but it's ridiculously easy. In all honesty, the beams do so little damage, I could 2 heal it, but 3 just makes it so much easier.
The 51 ele is such an under-represented spec because it's AOE is terrible compared to a pure stormcaller build. In a long boss fight, swarming flames generally accounts for 20% of my 2 ele's dps or ~23k in 10 seconds. It's pretty ridiculous that a single cooldown will take off 20-30% of a boss's health.
I've never had him cast a maelstrom when he casts the ground AOE. Usually when he maelstroms my mages, the one who gets maelstrom'd moves cleanly and will drag the mages with him, but the "pull" breaks your current movement. So if you strafe out of the ground aoe holding down your stafe key as soon as maelstrom pulses, the 3 that are pulled will stop moving even if the strafe key is held down... my best solution to this is to push and hold the strafe key for a second and rinse and repeat.
As far as RNG, it's like that for a lot of fights. I have had him cast maelstrom on a pet, which pretty much is a wipe since both my pets are casters they are generally next to my mages and don't move when I strafe, it's pretty much GG. It's pretty similiar to Caelia in CC - pets are valid targets for her dots, so I have to move away from the damn pets because it's too much of a pain to try to cleanse pets.
Eliam, I found pretty easy. I spread out my 4 mages in a semi circle around the rift area with my chloro healer in the center, pulled Eliam and started dpsing. Turned to face away at the blind, and when he entered kite phase, I didn't kite him. I simply healed through the damage (which was really easy and my gear is pretty much craptacular) with a single chloro. When he ran to the center, I didn't follow anyone but nuked the two ghosts. As soon as that 2nd ghost dies, he will immediately cast a blind, so you have to turn away and the first Torment will go out. So I had to turn away and then find the mage who got tormented, cure and then run him out of the aoe, manually. (Switched to their screen) And then turn everyone back so they could dps and heal. This was by far the hardest part - and I used tank cooldowns just to make sure I'd live through this mess.
The rest of the fight was just watching for torments and manually running them out of the aoe and turning from the blind.
He died after the 6 pack of ghosts... he didn't live long enough to get to the 8 pack. Took 3 pulls to get him down. I had a harder time with Atrophinius... but that's just because I insisted on doing it a different way, lol.
And if you want to have a little more dps fun... use a witchstone on that mage and you'll get near 3k lightning strikes, more if you use a guild banner + flasks.
