Default Gamer's have lost a champion...

Gary Gygax (co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons) died yesterday. at the age of 70.

Here is Penny-Arcade's tribute which I thought both funny and touching:

As a young geek I spent many weekends in friends' basements playing D&D and while it was not the most socially accepted of past times... I would not trade them for ones that were.

/cleans off his D20's and roll's the dice
    *Result of D20 - 1*

This was a typical night in my house growing up. Many frustrating nights failing to pick locks, detect traps, trying to jump the 20' pitfall with my 25' of rope and failing miserably.

Like IT I wouldn't trade those memories for anything in the world.

    Peace be with you Gary.

That original boxed set was one of the best purchases I ever made.

The good times we had playing D&D! Looking outside after a session with friends & seeing the sun come up! Man that game could cause me to lose track of time.

So many things we take for granted in CRPG & MMORPG games that we play came from this man's hard work.

Think of him the next time you "Crit" someone, or they "Resist".

    Rest in Peace.

The cool thing is how the universe that was made for the game has expanded and allowed some of the great fantasy writers a realm to explore and expand upon. Without him starting the entire D+D phenomenon there would be no tanis, no drizzt etc. He'll be missed for more than just his gaming influence, but also the influence his ideas had on fantasy literature as we know it. May Reorx, paladine and all the other gods watch over him.
