Thread: New set up

  1. #1

    Default New set up

June Is fast approaching and I'll soon be home and ready to build my first PC and get back to multiboxing and I couldn't be more excited but with that excitment also comes a tad bit of fear. So I've come to ask some last minute advice before I pull the trigger on this endevor, below I've listed the core componets for what I'm looking to build.

    CPU - i7 2600k
    Motherboard - MSI 674- GD65
GPU - EVGA geforce GTX 570 superclocked
SSD- OCZ tech 120gb vertex 2series
    RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws 12GB

I've also picked a case, HD, after market fan, and CD/DVD drive, I can list those if needed.
All tings considered the price tag is looking to be about $2860, if that number looks ood I added in about a $900 budget for my monitor set up and rough shipping cost. All in all I'm just looking for any tips better brands, diffrent compnets, and I still need to decide on a danm monitor set up >.< so any advice in that department is appriciated.
One last thing, my original budget was $4,000 so if anyone has ideas for resonaable upgrades I'd love to hear them, saveing the money wouldn't hurt my feelings tho
Thanks again in advance to the wonderful community here and sorry if I left anything important out i'm somewhate of a noob at all this but it all makes sense in my haed.

I don't know what model that board is... MSI only lists a P67A-GD65. Z68 chipsets are supposed to be released in
about 7 days. When they are available you won't want P67 anymore.

SC'd cards aren't really worth it in my opinion unless they're pretty extreme and even then they need to carry a
good warranty with them. You'd probably be better off getting the 1.5GB or 3GB GTX 580.

Why did you choose the older version of the SSDs?

12GB is triple channel... 1155 chipsets use dual channel.

Case/PSU are always nice to know as well.

This is what happens when you skimp on your research, thanks I'll look into the new chipset.

Well I just messed that all up.

Theres a reason I posted this before I did somthing stupid now I have time to correct my mistakes before I waste all that money. Thanks for the quick response.

Don't get me wrong... P67 will still be viable and will still stay in production for a bit I'm sure. But if you need bleeding edge
technology Z68 is going to have more bells and whistles than P67. Of course, compare those bells and whistles for the price
and see if you really need them. Sandy Bridge also has an H67 chipset but that's the low end chipset and I would recommend
    P67 or Z68 over it.

I'm going to be stepping up my EVGA GTX 570 to a 1.5GB 580 this week hopefully. I'd really like a 3GB model but... I'm not
entirely sure it's in the cards.

It's all good. The Vertex 3's are the OCZ's you're going to be looking at. However, I feel that OCZ can be hit or miss after
reading a lot of random hardware forums. Vecter convinced me to go with the Intel 510's instead of the OCZ V3's and I'm
easily impressed by their performance. You must realize that if you're looking at specs on SSDs it's highly doubtful you will
reach those speeds all the time, if at all.

I made it a point to buy a board that supported 32GB even though they don't have 8GB consumer level modules out just
yet so I've only got 16GB, but at least I know I can double that in the future if need be.

    Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119160

Decided to wait on the new chipset and get my RAM after that. Takeing a hard look at the 3gb 580 and I was sold on the intel 510 SSD.

Oh and this is the best idea for a monitor I've come up with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001414 x3

I just clicked submit on an order for the 3GB GTX 580 about 2 hours ago and it'll be here in a few days. I shouldn't have
done it but I did. /sigh

I will be doing some testing and comparison between my 570 and this new 580.

I love these super slim designs but unfortunately all my monitors are mounted on arms and none of these slim designs offer
VESA mounting on them. I'm sure they're so light that I could just epoxy them to the monitor arm and they wouldn't fall off.

Intrested to see how the 3GB GTX 580 works out so I'll probally hold off intill I hear from you if you don't mind posting results.

As for monitors I may just say screw the mount... I wonder how they would look without one.

Ya post about that 3G board, when you have it up and running.

Stand in Org and spin on both high / low setting with one client.

    Same with 5 clients loaded.

That will tell us a lot.

I am interested in seeing if with 5 clients all 3G is used up or if there is some kind of block at the 2G limit.
