Wireless Mouse Interference

Not related to multi-boxing directly...

RF interference in my apartment building has increased, and my mouse's range and sensitivity lowered dramatically. I have to move the receiver literally next to the mouse pad, and even then it's a little sluggish. It works fine outside of my building, so it's not a problem with the hardware.

I don't want to go back to using a wired mouse. I really love the lack of wires; ever since switching to a wireless mouse, wired mice seem quite annoying to use. Does anyone have any ideas, or know of a brand of wireless mouse that's resistant to interference? I don't need a full-on gaming mouse with many buttons; any nice ergonomic shape with three buttons and a big scroll wheel like the Microsoft optical mice is fine.

I've tried switching channels but it seems to be a more general kind of interference rather than someone running something on my channel. I may try getting a Bluetooth mouse (my current Microsoft wireless mouse is I believe still old-style 27mHz). I'm a little worried that Bluetooth will have its own interference issues with the various 2.4gHz wireless networks around here.

Also watch out for CB Radios, whenever a mic is keyed up you will lose all signal until the key is released... main reason we don't use them at work.

Bluetooth mice will experience a degradation in performance but not enough for you to notice, I would expect. The ones we have here are fine, even with 10 other BT devices operating in close proximity. Bluetooth is much more robust around interference due to adaptive frequency hopping. Now, if your microwave is in the next room, all bets are off. :P

Also, if you buy a really cheapo BT mouse, you should expect to have equivalent or worse performance than your current situation. :P The logitech DiNovo or MSFT mice should work fine, though.

Put the mouse and receivers in a faraday cage. THAT will fix it :)

Better option might be a wired USB multicaster.
