I had originally intended to follow the "Live and let live" mantra, and didn't touch anyone till around level 39. I pretty much let alliance be, and even helped a few with quests. Then I got camped by a duo for a while in Thousand Needles. It wasn't even a duo of 70s, they were around 55 but would not let me be. I said "Oh well, it's a pvp server" and logged out for an hour.

However, since then I've followed the fight or flight rule. If I can kill them, they're gone, and they don't get to be in my area until I'm done there unless they bring bigger firepower to take me on. If I can't kill them, I move on and occupy myself elsewhere. This doesn't upset me, as it's what I rolled on a pvp server for: it's like being an animal, people actually stake claims to territory and fight trespassers off. If I ever get tired of it, I can always relog to my pve server.

I leveled my first character (a rogue) on a heavily populated and very old pvp server (Deathwing).
This server's horde population would constantly gank me on sight and camp me, and I decided to return the favor. I will almost always engage first, provided that it looks like I have a chance to win (not hard when you're well geared). I do have exceptions of course, like when people are doing daily quests, or if a hordie is somehow helpful or nice to me (saves me from death, etc.)
Rogues have some of the best escape abilities. Yes, stealth is useless when someone is 20 levels higher than you and they have mounts and you don't. But as a rogue I have escaped from corpse camps more times than I can remember. I leveled my rogue in STV and TM by choice, actually, more than 1 of them. With other classes I avoided STV and TM.

Speaking for myself, the actions of other people in game hardly influences my own playstyle. Yes, you will get the morons with nothing better to do than camp players 30-40 levels lower than them. My response towards THOSE players is influenced but not my playstyle in general.

I am the kind of player that would organize groups to corpse camp town gankers in places like Ogri'la etc. I am always up for a fair fight and always up for laying down some righteous retribution on those that do not fight fair.

This is actually an interesting topic to me, because I believe it is a psychological issue. People who got ganked when leveling will gank others IMO. When talking about behavior, people are a product of their genetics and their environment. We can't measure pvp aggressiveness with genetics, so I think its all about what they experienced.
Your view is too simplistic. Getting ganked implies that some high level character took the trouble to go to a low level area purely with the motive to gank. Yes, there are exceptions, but this probably covers the majority of ganking situations. Most of the serial griefers get pleasure out of making other people's lives miserable. They derive their enjoyment from playing people, not from playing the game. They are the minority. They will always justify their behaviour with "it's just a game" etc. They are probably cowards as well and they can get away with being complete dickheads due to the anonimity provided through the internet. You will see the same people trolling message boards. All they are interested in is riling people up, the more upset they can make you the more satisfaction they get from it. I call them sadists and will go out of my way to return the favour although in most cases it is best just to ignore them.

I don't believe your experiences in game will influence your general behaviour. Most people level, deal with the gankings and move on. Few go back to low level areas purely to gank because they were ganked and fewer still will do it on a regular basis.

This is much like the fact that most sexual offenders were sexually abused as children.
Comparing sexual abuse to ganking is like comparing apples and the ex-planet Pluto. I'd like to know where you got your facts from though. The statement is also "most sexual offenders were sexually abused" so it does not say anything about most sexually abused children. For all we know 99% of sexually abused children does not turn into sexual offenders. Also, most sexual abuse occurs within the family which brings genetics into play. Be careful with the conclusions you draw from the statistics.

Just a FYI, I do know people that were sexually abused as children and I would be totally blown away if they are sex offenders. I don't think you ever get over the psychological damage and trauma but I find it really hard to believe it turns you into a child molester.

This is off topic but there have been several studies done suggesting a link between sexual offenders and those that were abused as children - apparently the incidence rate is around 35% of sexual offenders being abused as children. I'll see if I can dig up a link...

Back on topic - I think its not just the anonyminty of the internet that turns people into gankers, but also the lack of consequence of actions built into the game itself. Anyone can hit a lowbie zone and start greifing other players. The worst consequence of this, a bunch of 70's find you and camp you and you may be forced to spirit rez and hearth. 10 mintues with rez sickness seems a pretty easy way to get off, and thats assuming you get caught in the first place.

Adding into the mix that there are a lot of immature kids playing WoW and you are bound to get gankers & griefers.

    Cheers,

Damn,, even split so far..... Im definately in the "If its red, its dead Catagory".

From UO, to Shadowbane, to World of Warcraft (at least till something better comes out)

    Leigon of Hing
    United Humpers
    Lords of Death
    Weapons of Mass Destruction

My desire to kill other players has outlived many guilds & many games.

    I R PK.

My name is Quix & Im a Gankaholic.

I don't camp lowbies. I don't Go to Lowbie areas looking for a fight. I do play the game as normal, & attack every red name I run across (Sometimes with the result of me getting knocked the F$%K out)

I find it amusing when multiboxing at lvl 62 I took out 3 70s that were in my leveling area ganking lowbies. Oh the irony :whistling:
1Priest, 4Mages Qyx, Kwix, Aquix, Cquix, Quixar // 5 Shammies, Quixs, Quixas, Quixbs, Quixcs, Quixds // Quix Inc (Gurubashi PVP)

well I R PKK :P take that you. I agree on some points but not others. It is as people say 'just a game' so I should be allowed to kill whoever I want whenever I wanted. That being said I don't agree with camping/griefing people. (My definition of griefing doesn't mean killing someone 2 or 3 times then leaving - my definition is doing anything for the sole purpose of making someones gameplay experience miserable) I like ganking people its fun and killing someone 3 times and then leaving is NOT camping. On that note is there a set number of times you kill someone when ganking turns into camping? or is camping defined by the way you act? Sitting on their corpse and waiting to kill them. /shrug

Edit: lol@diablo PK :P also LoD TPPK good times

If you call your buddies for a gank-fest, prepare to eat 4x fire elementals as I chain heal through the chaos, then /spit, /mount, and leave your burnt corpses.
dunno how about your server, but on Shadowmoon EU we got powerful and overpopulated horde. So once I come and steamroll 5 people at elemental plateu, in 10 mins I get hunted by 1000 a3 geared undead warlocks spamming seed of corruptiong and 5000 dots.

Sticking around waiting for someone to rez after you killed them is camping.

    And what makes it "fun"?
