Thread: Mouse

    Default Mouse

So I am looking to buy a new mouse. Not really a multi-boxing specific mouse, but just a all around quality gaming mouse, for a decent price (50-75$?)

So I was just wondering who loves their mouse, and what type is it?

I was checking out the G5, 45$ on sale, and looks like a quality mouse.
    Anyone have one?

    In short.

    FUCK LOGITECH.

I don't know why people buy their "gaming" products, in my oppinion they are utter crap. Not to say that the next set of stuff that they bring out will also be, but all their mouses to date have had their asses whipped by a *quality* brand, Razer.

Get yourself a Razer, you won't regret it.

Does that Razer mouse have a 4th and 5th side button? Did not seem like it did.

I can't really fathom the passion here of one mouse brand over the other, and would need an argument a little stronger than 'FUCK LOGITECH' to make me understand.

We're talking about a mouse here people. It points, it clicks... We're also talking about MMORPG's on this site, so how many headshots are we really concerned with? I'd say maybe if you're trying to make a CAL-I clan in Counter-Strike or something then maybe the Razer has features that would be relevant to you, but in WoW or another MMORPG it's just not that important. Go feel one up at a local BestBuy or something and if it feels good and you like the price, get it. I just recently switched to Logitech from Microsoft because I'd mashed button 5 in so many times that it was about to fall off. The only reason I switched was that MS changed their design and the new ones don't feel right to me like their old ones did.

If you're convinced by the elequent arguments above, it looks like Razer has several modes that have dual side buttons which is a minimum requirement to me.

I think that's what I'm going to have to do. Go molest a few mice at my local bestbuy and/or circuit city.

I personally have used logitech for a long time, but I cannot comment on quality becuase other than this current mouse that is starting to die, (the main click button sometimes does not regrister well, and will either double click when I click once, not click at all, or my favorite, stop holding the mouse down when I am still holding the button down.) I have always killed my mice, with apple juice, or from having it for 3+ years and beating the crap out of it.

Heh Heh, maybe he is anti-establishment when it comes to mice.

I tried out the Razer Lachesis a few months ago when it first came out. I'd say it's the most uncomfortable mouse I've ever used, probably due to it's ambidextrious design. The extra side buttons (it has them on both sides of the mouse) were stiff and impossible to press without having a death-grip on the mouse for leverage. The tracking was good, too sensitive at the ridiculous 4000dpi level, but good at 2000. But I just couldn't get over the poor ergonomics. You'll end up with mouse-claw-hand syndrome if you use this thing for extended periods of time. Maybe it's great if your left handed... or if you have a 6th thumb-like appendage on your mousing hand, if not, I'd pass on this one at least.

So far, my favorite is the MX1000, which isn't really sold any longer, or the MX Revolution. You need download uberoptions with the Revolution though. It opens up the logitech software and allows you to actually assign all of the mouse buttons to whatever you like. Apparently Logitech thinks you don't need to, and by default, doesn't allow it.

I'm a cheap bastard and use $10-$20 corded optical mice from Micro Innovations...3 buttons + scroll wheel's all I need. I do however agree SOMEWHAT with Wilbur...Logitech stuff I've bought/used wasn't always too good in quality/broke/or was a pain in the ass to setup and sometimes simply didn't cooperate. Their gamepads(though not JUST theirs) in particular tended to fuck up fast, the analog sticks especially tilting to the left permanently; their webcams go to shit quality pretty quick and their programs to go with most hardware tend to be basic and suck lol

I'd give more advice but I've been using the same brand/setup of mice for years without any issues sans the scroll wheel being uncooperative after having it for a long time.

While I am also cheap, my only thought on your bad experiences with the cheap logitech mice is this, if you buy cheap, do you expect it to be high quality? Not just specifically with mice, but in most all things, I tend to buy the mid range price / quality items because they tend to combine good quality and functionality, with a decent price. Buy cheap, you get cheap stuff.

On the other side of the leaf though, is if you buy cheap logitech and it's crap, but you buy a cheap Microsoft mouse, and it's high quality, then I can see where you are coming from.

Didn't buy logitech mice, I've only ever used Micro Innovations' :p Logitech stuff I've used was headphones/mics/gamepads/webcam(s) and those were mid-range costs, all sucked lol
