Thread: More keys ...

    Default More keys ...

    Hello,

What would you suggest in order to extend the number of available keys ? (beyond the classical 102 keys)
I found solutions like xKeys or Logitech G510 keyboard but the supplementary keys can only be programmed to produce keystrokes based on the existing keys among those of a classical (102 key) keyboard.

What I need is more and different keys.

    Context:
I'm using ISboxer and currently programming Key Maps.
I want to be able to control the movement of my different toons (which are on different computers) using only my main keyboard.
So I intend to press down one key (one assigned for each toon) and then use the keypad arrows to move the toon. Release the initial key when I'm done.
I did that successfully with Shift and Alt and also Control. But I have more than 3 toons to move so I need more keys.
That's why I'm looking for more (and new/different) keys.

Any hint would be highly appreciated

    102 Keys
    Left Shift + 102 Keys
    Left Ctrl + 102 Keys
    Left Alt + 102 Keys
Left Shift + Left Alt + 102 Keys
Right Alt + Left Ctrl + 102 Keys
Left Shift + Right Alt+ Right Ctrl + 102 Keys

I think you see where this is going....

    With the method Khatovar linked...

    Pick a key, any key.
Use that as the hotkey for a two-step mapped key.
Execute a step on press or release.

Step 1 - Enables an alterate Keymap
Step 2 - Disables an alternate Keymap

Alternatively, disable (step 1) and enable (step 2) a default Keymap as well.

    You could use:
    - G1 (while held) as WASDQE only applies to Toon A
    - G2 (while held) as WASDQE only applies to Toon B
    - Etc.

    Thanks for your replies.

I missed the fact that ISboxer can managed different events for left and right Shift, Ctrl, Alt. So now I have plenty of combinaison possibilities (more than enough actually).

Just one question for clarification (since I don't have a G510 yet)
If there is no keystroke or function assigned to the G1 key, what is the keystroke produced when the key is pressed ?
    - "F1" (as stated in the user manual)
    - a G1 unique keystroke event (in this case I can use the method you describe)

The G-Keys have two options for use.

You can run the Profiler software as an Administrator.
In which case, you would assign a key combination to each G-Key.
So when you push G1, it might send Alt + Shift + A... and G2 might be Alt + Shift + B, or whatever.
And then you have macros on those keybinds.

If you clear our the software so it is a totally blank profile.
No repeater options, no toggle options, nothing set at all.
You can start Profiler, while Inner Space is running and then end process.
At which point you can use the G-Keys as hotkeys for a mapped key.
If you go this route, you can also use M1, M2, M3 and the MR buttons as toggles and tie light on and light off to these buttons, as a visual confirmation on the mode you are in.
Also G1 is then an option for modifier keys with Shift G1, Alt G1, Ctrl G1 all being different than plain G1.
You need to select G-Keys from the drop down menu, rather than just pushing them as hotkeys.

    @ualaa

so after clearing the G profiles, and using th G keys as hotkeys for mapped keys through isboxer, this does mean it's no longer possible to later add a profile for single play for example?
i.e. deleting the profiles is permanently needed i guess rather than it's required so isboxer can install a 'hook' into the G keys

more practical: I use a bunch of G keys for solo play (through profiler software), but also like to use them as hotkeys through isboxer, I guess both don't work together?

and while we are at it, how about the G13? could I use my G11 through the profiler software and my G13 through isboxer?

You don't have to permanently delete the G510, etc, profiles. If you disable(exit) the logitech profiler software, the G keys will stop functioning normally, and IsBoxer can utilize them however you program it.

Then if you want to play solo, just re-open the logitech profiler, and it will start functioning normally.

Lax basically said, have a clean profile with nothing in it, start it and end process while IS Boxer was running.
He said I'd have to do that once, and if I unplugged/replugged the keyboard I'd have to do it again.

In my personal experience, I need to start and end-process every time I start Inner Space, if I want it to not have the default G1 = F1 type of behavior.
I have the Profiler software and Inner Space on the Quick Launch bar, and end-process which takes an extra 10-15 seconds each time I boot up the computer with the intention of boxing.

I've never tried a profile on the G15, after getting IS Boxer.
The G15 was purchased for boxing, Keyclone at the time.

    Sildenafil's response makes sense.
If you run the Profiler as an Administrator you can use its software in conjunction with IS boxer.
If you end-process, then IS Boxer knows those keys are available and not used.
