strange healing macro problem

I recently rearranged my healing macros on my cleric to follow ISBoxer FTL setup.

Originally I had the macros specifically target the tank with "targetexact tank" and then the heals. That worked great but if the tank went down and I switched to the rogue he wasn't going to get healed = wipe.

I was already using Lax's FTL setup with damage ability macros on all characters so it seemed natural to then set up the healing macros in the same way. In theory all I would need to do was remove the "targetexact tank" from the macro and as the key had FLT in ISBoxer as a step it should then heal the whichever character was being controlled, but it doesn't. What it does is give a "hand" icon on the clerics screen which you then need to click on the target.

After some thought I changed the FTL Assist macro to have a target character in there instead of assist character. Now the healing macros work on everyone but damage ability macros won't work with that even when "cast on target of target" is selected.

Not sure what the issue is here but any help would be appreciated!

With the original FTL setup it should heal whatever is targeted, not what is controlled. You could set each character to cast on target's target in settings, which would then heal the target of the mob you have targeted I think, but maybe not what you want.

I ended up making a click bar that sets all the healer's focus to whichever toon I want, and then their heals are all macros to cast @focus. So I click tank usually, then have mindless heal spam no matter which window I focus on.

Currently changing the setup entirely though to have click based healing, will post about that shortly.

Ok I have done some more experimenting and think I can explain it better.

As FTL is setup from the guide it uses the assist character command to pass targets to the non controlled clients.
I wanted to setup healing so that as my tank and rogue move through the hotbar 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc shooting off damage abilities my healer would also be healing from those same keypresses. I had thought to use the FTL system for that except a heal can't be cast on the assist command.

So then I thought to change the assist character to target character in the FTL macros as that will land a heal and should also cast damage abilites using the games pass through targeting (Cast on target's target).
That does work unless you are using a macro to cast the DPS ability. That is where my whole plan comes unstuck.

As a simple test make a macro like this on character2:
target character1
cast damage ability

If character1 has targeted an enemy the macro (used by character2) will target that enemy using pass through targeting but will not ever cast the damage ability.
This may be a bug in the game as logically this should work with "cast on target's target" enabled.

Anyway, what I want to do is be able to cast heals on the controlled client without messing with specific "target this character" macros.
It would work fine except for the above bug.

ya u should really set up an ATG for healers then make a keymap called heals then set a rotation then have your dps keys do mapped key have it call heals and send it to ATG healers that way no matter what dps key u spam it does his rotation. also u can make your healing macros target raid marks so u can do cast [alt] @mark 7 big heal cast [shift] @mark 6 big heal cast [ctrl] @mark 5 big heal cast @self big heal that way one macro can target diffrent people in the group all u have to do is have a modifier down. then have a 2nd macro to cast @focus big heal then set your tank as focus. Ive done this through click bars i have a vid up that explains my ui. i have 2 tank macros aoe and single target when i use hte click bar to heal it also sends to the tank his current rotation.

That's odd actually, I just tried what you mentioned as I could have sworn I remembered the assist working fine to cast heals. When I first started trying the game I was running 3 wardens and it was cute stacking 3 hots on people in warfronts.

You might be able to fix what you're saying with your macros and pass through targeting by putting each macro to cast @targettarget in appropriate places.

You might be able to fix what you're saying with your macros and pass through targeting by putting each macro to cast @targettarget in appropriate places.

there is also an ingame feature that u can cast on targets target. so as a chloro or dps you can turn that feature on and not acutally ahve to set up assist at all. and for a healer you can target the mob and it will heal who ever it is targeting. it works better i think for dps then healers. I find at doing @mark works great i just mark up my team with a macro and g2g. now for pvp im not sure how u would handle it due to the fact u dont have assist or anything like that to mark up your guys. However you can make click bars to heal each one and set each macro in a diffrent hotkey. so you can have like
targetexact name
cast heal
targetlasttarget
something to those effect. i have a video im about ot post of a boss fight from my healers point of view u will be able to see on the side bars i have all his diffrent hotkeys and macros to heal diffrent people and dispell diffrent people.

Yep, I was pretty sure this did work. Maybe it got broken in some other fixes.

Putting "cast @targettarget" fixed the DPS macros. Only problem is if I am actually controlling that character those macros then don't work. That isn't too bad as they are on the cleric and that is the last character to switch too if a wipe is imminent, it is rare I would want to cast a damage ability from them as it would be running away time.
I'll run with this set up for the moment and hope this gets fixed in game.

cichard, I do have targeted heals in macros that are on the G keys on my keyboard. They directly target my regular group members and also marks 4 and 5 in case I pick up added group members.
What I am talking about though is heals that fire off the DPS rotation and heal whichever client is being controlled. 95% of the time this is the tank but may also be the rogue.

I've taken the FTL Target Me command.
And created a copy of it.
So I still have the original, for when I want all the slaves to target the current character.

The copy has been modified.
Such that the target is the healer only, instead of window: all without current.
I've named this mapped key, Healer Target Me.

This is great, for round-robin effects like Renew or PW: Shield.
It would rock for placing Rejuvenation on the whole party.

Basically create a multi-step mapped key.
Step 1: Toon A -- Do Mapped Key > Healer Target Me
Step 2: Send Keybind to Healer
Step 3: Toon B -- Do Mapped Key > Healer Target Me
Step 4: Send Keybind to Healer.

You could run that with execute a step on Press or Release.
Then press and wait a short moment, and release.

You could adapt FTL Assist Me or FTL Follow Me, in the same way.
So it could be DPS Follow Me, executed by the Healer who broke follow... while the melee-DPS followed the tank in... to be used to pull them out to avoid a nasty AoE centered on the mob.

I logged a support ticket with Trion for why a DPS macro doesn't use the in game pass through targeting, will report back when it gets resolved.

You can put into the macros 2 lines with the 2nd a fallback cast:
cast @targettarget blah
cast blah

Works for most things on the main box I think. I had some trouble with the boxes swapping targets though when I used this on all toons, which messed with rogue combo points at least.
