For those that don't know, the default setting is:
  • LostFocusMinFrameTime = 100

This frees up a lot of CPU/GPU while the game is in the background but it drops your FPS to ~10. Nice for older boxes but for us multiboxers on modern hardware, not so much. After some looking, I couldn't really find what it did exactly. I'm guessing based on experimentation that it tells your system how much of a timeslice to give the rift process while not foreground. Based on that, I tried a few settings. Here are the background FPS results (i7-950 + GTX460, single-box main PC, FYI):
  • 100 = 10fps (default)
  • 50 = 19fps
  • 30 = 33fps
  • 20 = 47fps
  • Didn't try 0 but I presume it would just cap FPS depending on vsync.

My alt box (Q6600 + 8800GT + low-qual render setting @ 960x600) had almost the same results. Presumably would be lower FPS with graphics settings increased.

Not a big deal for most folks as 0 works for most cases, but if you want to unload your CPU/GPU a bit more or just maintain better control over things, hopefully these results will give you a better idea of what to expect.

Cheers,
