Default 4.1 Prot Pally Tanking Rotation

You need to set up a two macro system for this one to work.

    First macro:
    /startattack
    /click BT4Button5
    /click BT4Button6
    /cast Hammer of Wrath
    /script UIErrorsFrame:Clear(); UIErrorsFrame:Show()

If you don't use Bartender4, then change the BT4Button5 and 6 to ActionButton and whatever numbers you want them to, like 1-9
The script will force the red error messages to clear out when you spam this button, if you get the error noise, you can grab the sound file that removes it from Curse.

    http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...ject-8021.aspx

It's a sound file that replaces the current one that still works to this day I use.

    Second Macro:
/castsequence reset=3 Hammer of the Righteous,Judgement,Hammer of the Righteous,Word of Glory,Hammer of the Righteous,Shield of the Righteous,Judgement,Hammer of The Righteous,Shield of the Righteous,Hammer of the Righteous,Shield of the Righteous

Place macro 1, the spam macro above on whatever button you'll spam for this, then place Second macro on whatever hotbar you set in the spam macro, then the Avenger's Shield spell itself in the next hotbar. Only downtime on you'll get is from global cooldown and maybe a second or so at as the next spell comes off cooldown. With this, you'll still be able to spam the hell out of Avenger's Shield left and right. But like before, make sure you're Spell/Hit capped for whatever you're goin up against or you risk your HotR not landing for HP and it hanging up on SotR or WoG. You can also lower the time on the reset= to 1 or 2 if it'll help with that if you're missin too much.

The following spec should also help you out. It's a mix of both the Self Healing/Fast Threat building specs I've seen on Elitist Jerks. May not be a perfect build and rotation, but it should help you build, hold, and maintain a good hold on anything you pull.

    http://www.wowhead.com/talent#sZGrhfRzdRMuf0hskbcqzcm

As an added bonus, what I did was made /cast [@mouseover] macros for alot of my other spells and put them at my fingertips. Separate macros for Rebuke, Avenger's Shield, so I can use it a little more if it's not poppin with the above macro, also helps with pulling, and regaining threat from healers. And one for Hand of Reckoning. I also use Tauntmaster from Curse for threat monitoring. Others use Clique or similar addons, but TM is lightweight and easy to set up. I like it and it works for me.

Hope this helps ya'll. I just copied and pasted here from my post on the WoW and WowHead forums.

Edit: You can make another /castsequence rotation macro the same way, but swap the HorR for CS for single targets. I use HotR because I've found that it refreshes my AS way more than CS did during fights allowing me to put out more damage with it and use AS as a filler between spells that were still on cooldown. Try it, if you don't like it, then switch back to your style. Even with 1HP SotR hitting, atleast you've got that constant damage being tossed out instead of waiting every 3 seconds for your HotR or CS to cooldown to use them. This works for me and has not let me down, nor have any of my macros I've come up with. Again, to each their own, I'm just trying to help.

Edit: 6-10-11 Reposting new macros from a post I made back in May. I have not been on much with my Pally to test these as I have been working nearly non stop since I last came up with these. I was hoping that with all the views to this thread, someone might have had some luck with them and if so, what do you think?

Just replace this one with the first /castsequence I posted and use it with the SPAM button I made to /click this macro, then the Avenger's Shield spell too. This macro reached the 255 mark, so I couldn't group them all together in one macro.

    Mob rotation:
/castsequence reset=3 Hammer of the Righteous,Judgement,Hammer of the Righteous,Inquisition,Hammer of the Righteous,Inquisition,Judgement,Hammer of The Righteous,Inquisition,Hammer of the Righteous,Holy Wrath,Hammer of the Righteous,Word of Glory

Just use this one on bosses/single target pulls by it'self.

    Single Target macro:
    /castsequence reset=3 Crusader Strike,Judgement,Crusader Strike,Shield of the Righteous,Crusader Strike,Judgement,Crusader Strike,Shield of the Righteous,Crusader Strike,Holy Wrath,Crusader Strike,Word of Glory
    /cast Avenger's Shield
    /cast Hammer of Wrath

    Again, I use Consecration manually.

An opening boss fight macro that might help. If running with others, warn them not to fight till after the AS is cast.

    #showtooltip
/castsequence reset=60 Divine Plea, Inquisition, Exorcism, Avenger's Shield

The original /castsequence can be changed also to replace the Word of Glory at the beginning with the Shield of the Righteous at the end, this way if the macro resets before WoG is off it's cooldown, the macro will not get hung up on you. Downside however is having Judgement hang it up if it's still on cooldown :/ I'm wanting to get back into the tanking game now that I'm starting to have a little free time more than before.

Thanks, this will be useful. Been working on leveling a pali to replace my current DK tank, not happy at all with the mastery on the DK tank.

Well, I'm not promising top performance from this. I'm catching alot of flaq from people on the other forums for this telling me that it's gimping performance with a /castsequence. I've found it to be better than having to stretch my hand halfway across the damn keyboard just to hit my spells. But then I guess they're also not mashing the spam button like we do when multiboxing. Even after 4.0 with the new setup, my old /castsequence was damn good and even improved my brother's fights. Don't know about the critics on the other board, but if I can pop off a damage spell between my main spell cooldowns, I'm gonna do it. Even if it means weak hits. Atleast it's more damage being tossed out there with a 1hp SotR. Even before, the damn EJerks' posts stated you can use both WoG and SotR in a rotation. Those people just never came up with a /castsequence. I may be gimping, but even on tanking the rare zombie beast over in TwHlands, those fuckers only pulled threat off me a few times and i was 84. My gear was too low for surviving the hits he sent my way, but yes, I kept aggro off raid geared dps and healers. even if for a moment at times :/ Had I been 85 and geared better, I wouldn't have had any problems.

I am looking to improve my pally tanking rotation as well but i want it to work with my dk priority system spam, this is what i have so far:

    button 1: avenger's shield
    button 2: hammer of wrath
    button 3: divine protection
    button 4: /castsequence reset=5 Judgement,Hammer of the Righteous,Shield of the Righteous,Hammer of the Righteous,Crusader Strike

I typically use AS to pull my mobs instead of Judgement and the Hammer and Crusader strike that close to one another in a rotation with nothing being cast between them will cause you to have to sit and wait on them to come off cooldown. Hammer and CS both share a cooldown, Hammer is meant for mobs, CS for single targets/bosses. Don't mix them in the same /castsequence unless you're tryin to fill up the character limit allowed. Best to have one macro for each. But the way I have mine set up is my main spam button is the first macro. I spam that which makes it click my /castsequence macro first, then my AS between spells or during the global cool down. This way I can pop off AS alot more than tryin to do it manually unless I chose to. I also have an AS /cast [@mouseover] macro for adds, pulling, or whatever. But with this, I'm using it also in my rotation. People on the other forums keep sayin that with this over their original style, they're losing TPS with this, but it's not that different from my original macro before the 4.1 change to WoG and Elitist Jerks never came up with anything for either from what I read as far as macros unless they couldn't get it for some reason, and nothing was/is posted since the change. I might've overlooked it, but this is what I have workin for me. Feel free to change it up if you want, add anything to it if you want, I don't care. With WoG in there and the talent for it, you're pretty much guaranteeing yourself the added damage bubble from the over healing if the healer bothers to keep you topped off. Especially with raiding. Again, the 1hp SotR may be week, but the constant damage from them back to back and AS in between should make up for it. If you put AS in the rotation, you're setting yourself up for a hangup in the rotation if you use it when it's refreshed before it reaches it in the sequence, or wasted chances if you only use it in the sequence and not as a filler.

Ok I've mended my macro to this:

    Single target:
    button 1: /castsequence reset=combat Crusader Strike,Crusader Strike,Crusader Strike,Shield of the Righteous
    button 2: judgement
    button 3:hammer of wrath
    button 4:/use 10 /cast divine protection /cast Avenger's Shield

    AOE:
button 1: /castsequence reset=combat Hammer of the Righteous,Hammer of the Righteous,Hammer of the Righteous,Shield of the Righteous
    button 2: judgement
    button 3:Holy Wrath
    button 4:/use 10 /cast divine protection /cast Avenger's Shield

I spam 1 button that spams all 4 of these, got two now one for aoe and one for bosses.

Edit: The aoe one works well but I have large gaps in my single target one.

The filters are probably keeping you from seeing it due to the links I posted in it to Curse for the addon/file and to Wowhead for the talent tree build. I'm in the process of rewording the castsequence for those that might have trouble with it resetting too early before WoG is off cooldown making this pretty much useless. Haven't been playing much lately and have yet to even log into my pally since I came up with this. I was thinking of putting WoG on the end of the castsequence, but seeing other macros posted on this page, I'm going to try them out as well and see how I like'em over my original one. If I like it and don't have trouble with it, I'll edit the first post so everyone can see it, hopefully, maybe get the one on the sticky changed as well. Wasn't thinking of the reset=3 screwing anyone over before WoG was off cooldown :/ sorry. Don't know why you're havin trouble there Cook, instead of copying it, try manually typing it out and see if that'll help. I have had trouble with the copy/paste function from other threads on here others have posted for /castsequences. After that, I've always manually typed them out in the game, and I also use the default WoW macro pages :/ They should really expand this by now since we're able to save them on our own PCs. They are the macro-cache.txt files deep in the WTF folder under each character under each account. Main macros are in the main folder under each main folder with the account's 'Login name'. You can copy/paste these files from one account to another as well. Did this for my shaman and hunter teams from my main's folder. Same goes for SavedVariable.lua (effects some UI addons), and the bindings files (key bindings). I copied over the SavedVariables folder as well so the addon settings would follow over to the other accounts as well. BACKUP your original files before doing any of this in the unlikely event of something going wrong or messing up. I did btw, and suggest anyone do the same.

I will try to take out WoG spell and see whether it will solve the problem.

I have been typing macro instead of copy/paste into the WoW macro pages. If by typing out the macro into the SavedVariable.lua will help to get rid of the chars limit then I will give it a try. (I will backup all the files before doing it.) Thank you.

I'd suggest typing them out while playing the game in the macro creation panel so you can tell how many 'characters' you're typing so you'll know whether or not you reach the 255 mark. You can't exceed that limit if you type them in the .lua file. I suggested those files only after you get them to work correctly while ingame. This way you don't have to copy/paste so many macros one after another from one toon to another. Easier to just copy that toon's whole list over. I found this out when starting over on new servers. I first copied over my 85 hunter's macro list to my new one on another server to shave off time. Then adjusted each macro to take out spells I did not yet have according to level/spec requirement. You don't have to have WoG in that rotation, make sure it's not in there if you don't have it yet. I put that in there for the 'Guarded by the Light' 2pt bonus and self healing for when I solo things. Give it time, I'll bet like the portals, this will get another change either to it's 20second cooldown, or better heal over time effect. You can glyph it to get that now tho, but I'm not sure how it'll effect the 'overhealing' part of the talent.

Ok noted in regards to copying those lua file to other chars. Thank you.
