    Default Computer Help

Hey i been updateing my PC part part to help with laggey zones and now i gotten to the GFcard part and hit a wall with costs.

my monter is like 7 years old and its starting to die on me now so i need to change this thats going to kill what i can spend of a gfcard atm am getting 5-4fps in combat and wow its starting to be unplayale on a 4870x2 (tryed to trun of corssfire but hell knows if it works or seems just as bad or worse with it on or off)

so am looking a single card now this other card was cheep from a friend and infact is worse then my dead 4800gt (on window mode that be corssfire)

with nvinda i nerver had good luck with cards lasting as long as ATI. so i love to go back to ATI.

    my system is:

    AMD 1050t x6 2.6 @ 3.9gz
    8gb of ram
    4870x2

@ x5 at 28% cpu 69% ram All chars on low. if i trun it up then my cpu still does not get over 60% and ram stays about the same. but my fps hit 12fps 1fps in combat.

Am looking at a ATI 6950 (flashed to 6970)

480 and 6950 are the same price in the UK.

thanks and hope someone can help

hello ebony, I have the 6950 2GB and I unlocked the shaders only. But it seems there is more to your problem then a graphics issue. You should be getting a decent framerate with your hardware and is unfortunate you are not.

according to the Anandtech gpu bench, the 480 is a tad better then the 6950. But those games seem more nvidia optimized rather then AMD optimized. Also you can just unlock the 6950 2GB shaders and have a really decent card. My vote is for the 6950,

If you want to troubleshoot your computer problem, we can help with that as well

thanks for the help i put in the 9800gt i had before i blow it up (fan stoped on it) it runs fine so the olny hardware is gfcard in

full window sceen one char i get 40fps on max no prob as soon as i hit window mode am doomed. this is a card with crossfire and can not really trun it off as its all on one card. funny thig is my bro was haveing probs with the card before he sold it to me so maybe its not a nuff power or 2 its dieing?

    i got a 750w power unit says it needs 700w but i got a few hdd's

i have a 620w power supply with many things hooked up to it, so I am sure a 750w would do
keep in mind that a cheapo power supply will not cut it for anything as it will blow under the stress and maybe take your computer parts with it o_o
as long as you buy a quality power supply to fit your computing needs, it should not be a factor in your problem.
if you are curious on how recent power supplies rank, here is a GREAT review site from "jonnyguru".

as for your problem, that is weird. to me it sounds like the card is overheating or dieing as you said. Or it is a software problem with windows, drivers, and or the boxing software. If you are up to it, you can download some temp monitoring and stress testing for your computer and run them while monitoring the temps.
also if you have vista/windows 7, try going through the event logs and see if you have any errors related to the video card, boxing software, or drivers, etc.

oh and for hardware problems, make sure you test the hard drive for errors and or check memory using memtest+.
