    Default Need LCD Advice

Anyone using a 22inch LCD that can view portrait and has dvi output that you are happy with? I am trying to find another brand for 22 inch lcd since my dell ultrasharps are ultracrap. If you move your head 1 inch to the side of dead center the whole screen changes color. Its terrible.

I've got the same issue with the Optiquest q22wb, kinda surprised you're having that prob with the Ultrasharp, maybe it's just a pandemic issue with all widescreens? iono.

Yeah after further research I found out its due to the panel they use. My 24inch dell uses a good panel, however, the 2208 ultrasharp uses a crappy TN panel. Here is some info I found about LCD's Copy from forum post.

""You are experiencing one of the downfalls of a 6-bit TN panel. These types of panels are notorious for poor viewing angles and is definitely not recommended for any type of portrait viewing (as opposed to landscape). You need to do some research and be willing to spend more money on better panel technology.

All 22" LCD monitors use TN panels and most panels smaller than 22" also use TN panels. There are certain 20"/21" monitors that uses better panel tech (P-MVA, S-PVA, S-IPS [them most expensive]), but will cost $450+; namely the Samsung 214T and 215TW. I'm sure there are other LCD monitors that use one of the 3 better panel techs I mentioned, but I have only been researching 24"+ LCD monitors.

All 24" LCD monitors used to use P-MVA or S-PVA panels, but the 6-bit TN panel recently invaded this territory; starting with the Samsung 245BW. The following is a list of 24" 6-bit TN monitors that I know of (all of which are $500 or less): ""

You can tell if its a crappy TN panel if the viewing angle is under 170 and the response time is under 5ms. I guess they post response times that are lower because they are not displaying as many colors as a better panel.

I just bought a 24" Samsung 245B (aka crappy TN panel... ) and well.. I love it. No issues with viewing angles or speed for gaming.

That's awesome info Pinot! Thanks for digging that up! For me it's worth dealing with for the cost savings but it's really nice to know wtf is going on.

It's a case of what you dont know doesnt hurt you. If you had two lcd's side by side and one was like my 24inch ultrasharp and the other this TN panel you would see it night and day difference. Had I never been using a better panel I would prob think they are all the same.

I do have two lcd's beside each other (the 24" looks noticeably better), but you're probably right - it's like going from regular mount to epic mount. Once you go epic you are spoiled.
