Internet providers in Virginia ( Richmond area )

I moved to Fredericksburg VA, Its in between Richmond and DC. I just got here and will be looking for a permanent place to stay ( i am in an extended stay hotel atm ). As i search adds for apts and rooms for rent, I notice there are at least 3 IPs here.. FioS..COX and Comcast. Any idea and the quality of each? are they all the same or should i be looking for one over the others? I mean for me, where i live 100% depends on having the best internet connection i can get.

Also, are there any electronic/computer super stores over here? I had the luxury of having two Frys Electronics in Phoenix area. There does not seem to be anything like that here. i hope i am wrong!

Not sure about Va, but I have had Comcast and Fios in Wa.
Comcast was crap here at that time (4 years ago). Fios was awesome, but expensive (not much more than Comcast though).
Comcast always times that it would slow down consistantly. Fios stayed at max speed that whole time. Fios' upload speed was night and day better than Comcast too, which for most is not really an issue, but your a software dev working out of your house, it tends to be important.

Comcast now offers XFinity (at least I think its called that), which should rival Fios. I however really dislike Comcast and their not great customer service, so I would go with Fios over them.

Not sure at all on Cox.

Thanks for the reply..someone here told me not to get FioS, but did not tell me why. Ill keep researching. Thank you for your input!

They're about the same. They all have terrible customer service, shoddy install people, and heinous wait times for installation.

But their internet rarely goes down. I've used all 3 for at least a year each. Comcast has certainly come a long way. xfinity is overpriced and the On Demand UI constantly crashes. The FIOS UI is slow and combersome. Haven't used Cox in a few years.

Either way I could fly down to Brazil, grab some monkeys from the rainforest, and train them to support customers better than any of those three.

/cry ... oh well.. i just found out that the company that i service is owned by COX.. they said i can get a 10% discount for being one of their vendors.. ill look into that 8)

That's cool, I'm moving soon too and wanted to try out Cox again. If not, I'll just go back to FIOS (have xfinity right now).

Well be glad you don't have to use the crap king Fairpoint that I am forced to endure each day.

I too am moving in the next month or two, and my first criteria for the house I select is that there exist more than Fairpoint for the choice of ISP. Comcast or Fios both would be a very welcomed change.

I like the Monkey commit. That's about my feelings with Apple and their ITunes support. I had my account's device ID frozen because I failed to input my newly changed password correctly on my IPhone. It has now been over a week and I still can not purchase any thing (including free apps). How hard is it to reset a password?
