I enjoy lvling toons rather then gearing them, although the new feralas and Thousand Needles quest are killing me
I too felt the 80-85 quest were too basic and not enough story to get me interested. Blizzard did a bad job at explaining why certain things happened. For example, when you have to bring the ex-leader of darnassus to the green drake in one of the Hyjal quests. I do not understand why he joined with "you know who" (sorry trying not post spoilers). the quest did not explain it that much or go into detail, unless you find out in darnassus.
though my favorite zones are
vash'jir = looks beautiful and the quests after the starting zone is decent.
deepholm = again another beautiful zone, certain things like the little rocks floating off the ground impress me, quest are decent as well
twilight highlands - decent quests after the few starter quests, but I really liked the wildhammer quests quite a bit
