depending on your setup... as of v1.8d, you could also use keyclone's PiP to swap your dead main for one of your alts.
(BOOBS extension to be available tonight...)

this way, you can continue playing on the same screen but with a different character as main.

    process:

    1. main dies
    2. curse the gods... swear.. bang desk... (you have <1 sec for this step)
    3. hit your PiP hotkey and your desired clone's screen pops in front of you
    4. hit your 'set focus to X' key ... setting the new focus for all your clones

    5. seek revenge

    no mouse movements required.
of course... PiP only works on the local machine
(how the hell would i move an app from one machine to another?! .. and yes, people have asked...)

I'm assumeing that you mean PVP, BG.s etc. most of the time if you main dies others are close also. I still use main for traget even after death.
I still fire away with other 4 until OOM or death. I never run, never give up. also fight until last drop of mana, health. Most of the time I take them with me. ( I go you go)

I have a single set focus button. Using the nodead target modifier, if my main is alive focus is set to him, if he is dead, it moves onto the next line in the macro, which checks if my 2nd toon is alive and sets focus to him. It has a line for each of my toons in order.

So I set the order of the focus calls in the macro to align with my different wow windows, so when my main dies, I just move my eyes sequentially through my windows until I find the next person in the macro who is alive, hit the macro and now everyone is assisting the toon that I'm concentrating on.

Sorry, don't have the macro to type up here at work.

    Default What about moving?

So here's my issue... I get by. But lets say you doing PvP... your main dies. You hit your button to shift to your new Main. Which is what I do.

So now everybody is working fine - targeting right, following right... but lets talk about movement.

I use multi-box and dont pass my asdw keys... because they move my main guy around... but when he dies then the others just stand there.. So then I got this idea to use 'fght' on my second main... since I really only use 12 keys to fight. but then if my 2nd tank dies I am kinda screwed...

I hear that othres use Shift-asdw or shift&alt-asdw or shift&alt*ctrl-asdw, i tried this but being born with 4 fingers and 1 thumb per hand. how can I use 3 of them to hold the shift/alt/ctrl keys and still move...?

I use the "Focus" way of doing things. For movement, I have a mouse connected directly to my 2nd "Main",,,, it takes about .3 sec to reach for that other mouse, & then I just use the mouse buttons for movement.

I'm not sure what I was doing/did wrong. I made the /focus bj macro, hit f1, as suggested above, and cast the heal button. Bj healed the target, the one clone I was experimenting with healed Bj, not Bj's target.

My team has two guys that can CC so I avoided using the focusMain method for controling my guys. To the boxers that use CC, how do you sheep/banish/seduce/shackle/etc when you're not using focus for these abilities?

I doubt i'm overlooking anything. It's a choice you have to make when setting up how control your toons. You either use the focus to follow and assist your main with no easy way to target for CC, or use another method to target leaving the focus function for crowd control.

easiest way is a focus macro where you check if the toon you want to focus is alive.
if not the macro continues until it has found a living toon =)

    then assist the focus

but the main problem most people ignore is:

I use my focus function for polymorph + re-polymorph during a combat
    so I can't use focus + assist-focus

creating big /assist if nodead macros which checks each toon are too long
for the macro function of WoW so I only check two toons:

assist tank if alive, if not assist priest, if both are dead do nothing and just die

just a quick comment for the one who uses f1-f4 for focusing main and f5-f8 to follow that main:

why not combine those into 1 key? my f1-f4 keys are used to both focus and follow whoever i choose as my main. i've never really had a random problem that i needed my alts to NOT follow me, so this just made sense.

this is an actual question tho, not rhetorical. is there a benefit that you gain by seperating these functions into 2 keystrokes?

you only need 6 keys... 5 focus keys, and 1 /follow focus. Actually with some [conditions] you might be able to break it down to 2 keys. The master focus key and /follow focus.
