Thread: The new Wiki

    I added some Kara pages, but I'm having problems adding embedded images to the pages.

    Example:
    [[Image:http://v-boxing.net/blog/media/blogs/vblog/moroes.jpg]]

    The wiki page makes it a URL link to:
    http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/inde...log/moroes.jpg

    Of course, I'm a wiki nub so I'm doing this as I go... Could be totally off with the syntax.

    I'd be more than happy and very excited to do a gear guide at level70. Ive had experiences with shamans and warriors mainly at 70 but I've also been raid leader through TK&SSC So im farmiliar with the requirements that people need to achieve. It would probably be the best topic I could do.
    I think it would be a great idea if there was a profile page or something, where you can see the avid boxers setups, specs, layouts, characters, armories, and so on.
    For Example
    -
    <Group Title>
    <Main Chars>
    <Profile>
    -
    The Optimen
    4 Shamans & 1 Druid
    http ://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/profiles/optimen/
    -
    and where it links to the persons own edited profile.

    I took the initiative and started creating a gear guide wiki
    http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/inde..._70_Gear_Guide I am nowhere near finishing it, is it over the top or does it not cover enough?
    I havnt added it to the start page yet.

    Hello

    I'm not that wiki specialist you are looking for, but I highly suggest to
    a) disable anonymous editing. Spammers love Wikis and reverting changes on a mediawiki is a real pain.
    b) make use of categories. Very often pages are added without categories and the're very hard to find afterwards.
    c) Think about templating. Sites like instances, class descriptions, Guides and so on can have their categorys and/or beauty added automatically with a template. Since I'm a real WoWWiki.com Fan I suggest at least one template for stubs / todo pages. (see here how it works)
    d) Since WoWWkis Content is released under GNU General Publuc License there would be nothing about copying parts over here (like guidelines, information, styles)

    I'm using / maintaining some mediawiki installations for my company and other organizations and I'll try to help here as I my time allows me to
    Hope it helps making our wiki an really informational an good resource for beginners and log time multiboxers

    Technical Infos to my post. Most users are not required to read here

    a) Edit the LocalSettings.php and add:
    Code:
    $wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;
    More info here. Additional Spamfighting info is available here .
    b) See Category Policy on Guidelines.

    I'd like to see in a participate in a 'setup' section which showcases our rigs and details them. There are a lot of questions from beginners on that and wading through the screenshots forum can be tiresome and over time we lose things like Ellay's setup for example. I'll try and get on at some point and post what I think would be a good template and everyone can just have at it if you all think it's worth pursuing.

    Ok, I've got my setup documented sans picture. Document yours if you're so inclined. Wilbur, change it around however you may like (or delete altogether if you don't), I'm all for a consistent look and format.

    Obviously feel free to incorporate my guide with the mix.

    What we DO need is a "I am new and I want to just get started, what do I need" section.
    Then branch it off into a more elaborate and advanced setup.

    We need a macro guide, an addon guide and a guide to the different softwares (and hardwares) available. Something like the forum posts but authoritative and not always getting shuffled around. This site has a TON of useful information but it is getting more and more buried as more posts are well, posted.

    I also agree that we should have a "show off your rig" section with specs.

    Maybe a instance walk through video / strategy section.

    Lastly, how about some PvP and PvE specific information and a basic "FAQ" for new boxers that have those "ah ha" moments (like movement or getting better fps) tricks and tips that may not be obvious to a new boxer.

    This would be great.. Has anyone ever establised the true "minimum" computer requirement to 5 box on a single machine? I know there are other factors, but I believe if there were a Multibox basic set up that wasn't as cost prohibitive more people would be interested.
    I think the Rig section I'm trying to start should handle the minimum requirements bit. I think there are too many variables to make a simple guide to say it all. By posting as many of our setups as possible people can extrapolate where they're at vs. what's proven to work. Everybody comes into this with some hardware we've seen setups ranging from 5 individual boxes to single quad core boxes now. Full hardware broadcasting to full software, etc.
