Finally an end is nearing to my lack of WoW. I moved to the (literally) sticks a month ago and can't get any kind of internet except satellite here, so now that I am getting a steady paycheck from my new job (which I love, feels like I'm actually working) I get my new high speed internet hooked up sometime next week. Good thing, because this NetZero dial up crap sucks something big. Only got it for the one month free and to get my email, which my iPhone is actually faster for that.

Since it takes approximately three hours to load the WoW site, anyone care to give a text rundown on all the new stuff I've missed since March 1st?

If you are getting satellite I'd recommend a bit of caution in getting excited over WoW. People have reported tons of issues getting the game working well on both Wildblue and Hughesnet. Especially after the change since 4.0.0 to how the game handles internet traffic. Those providers flag is at P2P traffic and throttle it back to lowest priority. This ontop of their service being crap in general makes for a horrible experience, especially during peak hour.

Tons of issues with both in the reviews and forums. If you want to do any gaming you basically pay $500+ and $60+ a month for a pile of garbage thats barely better than dialup.

If you want to play wow, check with an phone provider for 3G service like Verizon's mifi device. I've read several reports of people being able to game just fine on them with WoW. Massive patches will eat up a lot of your monthly cap, but they would with satellite too.

Quite a few providers had the same issues (worldwide), with unreal lag as a result. However there is a cheap solution that is gonna make your net into a trailblazer and costs 3-5$ a month extra: an ssh account (often referred to as proxy). Many services prioritize ssh traffic over the usual traffic. Plenty of australian wow players use such serviced. You can even test it for free @ some providers, but it will disconnect you every so few minutes until you get an paid account. But at least that should give you the opportunity to see if it works without an upfront cost. I forgot the names of the providers, but I can ask ingame to a buddy that is using it. Another option is to pm one of the aussies here and ask about it.

as the resident Sat user, I will say, at least for me , It is more than doable. Yes I have latency, but when I'm doing my own 5 man, it doesn't matter. Heck I can even do 5 men in raids, providing I'm DPS.

that being said, it could be different in your location.

I did use Hughesnet for about 5 years, and now I'm using Wildblue, and love it. Outside of that, I'm in the same situation as you, way out in the middle of nowhere. Wouldn't trade it for the world though.
