Well, don't I feel like a n00b (got ganked)

Last weekend I was wrapping up a juicy mining belt. A yellow person warped in in a Merlin. They approached and stopped right next to my cargo container. I typically ignore them and continue mining, even when they turn red.

My Orca was almost full so I need to offload some to a jetcan and have my Iteron V pick it up haul away. I noticed that the Merlin had stolen some ore from the Can, so it was then marked yellow. I then jettisoned a new can for my Iteron and looted from it.
It was after that that the Merlin started blasting my Iteron to oblivion. It took him probably about a 1 minute to kill it. I couldn't do anything since I was warp disrupted.

In the beginning I sat there smiling waiting for Concorde to show up and settle everything. That did not happen. This is a .7 system so concorde should have shown up within 15 seconds. What I'm trying to figure out is what I did wrong. I could have SWORN I jettisoned a new container, I'm about 95% sure I didn't loot from the can that had been flipped.

Any ideas? Is Concorde's response time in .7 slower than I've read? Needless to say I immediately looked up shield fittings on battleclinic and spent 22m on shields and shit for my orca/hulk/iteron. Luckily, Iterons are only ~15m for the total fit, so I didn't really lose much.

Also, if I were to set up a 9th account (*sigh*) to prevent this, what would be a good "all-around" ship that would be able to scare away or kill stuff like that? Are drones viable? If all of my hulks+orca can have drones, could I overwhelm them with drones? I'm guessing T2 drones are the best? What can stop a warp disruptor?

For the record I am mining with 1 orca, 1 iteron v, 3 hulks. In about a week I will be adding 3 retrievers to this group.

hmm You must have used his jetcan instead of new one i would think or if it was today who knows could be a new bug there are so many as of today its not funny. Mining lasers having to do full cycle as well as all other mods doing that to plus lots of other stuff not sure exactly what.
Anyway i would say you must have used his can somehow for them not to show up. Not sure how long it takes though less then the minute i am pretty sure.

can't you just have the hauler pick up from the orca directly?

Create a corp - it's a minimal cost and gives you a lot of benefits as a multiboxer
