    Default Building a new PC

Greetings fellow boxers, I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. I've been quad-boxing WoW with an ASUS G50V Laptop on "Low" Graphic settings and it's time to upgrade.

I was hoping I could get some some insight from the community on the new PC I'm going to be putting together in the upcoming weeks. I'll be running 4 WoW accounts and possibly adding a 5th at some point. Here is what I have compiled on my newegg.com wish list.

    My Questions are:

    • How well will 4 WoWs run
    • How high could I set the graphics and still get a decent framerate
    • Are there any improvements you guys would recommend on the any of these components (I'd like to keep the cost under $1500 total, plus I also need OS, and a new monitor)?

I'm able to five-box fairly well on my system.
Which is not as nice as your system will be.

I have an i7, 920 at stock speed.
This is close to a 930, with the newer numbers.

    Similar motherboard, x58 based Asus.

    I'm using a 1GB GTX275, for the video card.

    I have 12GB of DDR3, also at 1600mhz.
8GB will be plenty for five boxing warcraft.
Warcraft usually caps out at 1GB per client, plus less than 1GB for the OS.

I've got my OS on a Raptor hard drive, which is a little faster at 10,000rpm.
And have warcraft on a low-mid range SSD (Patriot Torq 64GB, 220mb/sec read).
A low end SSD, purely for the gaming folder would be what I would look at if you wanted am improvement; does not have to be now, very easy upgrade in the future if you want better performance.

    Similar case, Antec 900.
Lots of airflow, love the huge fan at the top and all the interior space.

I've got an 850W power supply.
But 750W will easily be enough.

Warcraft is more processor dependent than video.
If you have enough ram (and you do), then processor is generally the most important piece.
    Yours is faster than mine.
You'll five-box fine on that system.

I'd take a look at the 2500/2600k processors.
Not sure if they're within your budget, but if you're doing a new system... worth checking out.

    Diablo III: 4x Crusader & 4x Wizard.

Throw in another stick of 4GB ram so you can take advantage of the triple channel capabilities of your motherboard.

Other than that it looks pretty standard. I would suggest a solid state drive for WoW/OS.

I just put together a new PC and here is what I went with:

Proc - Intel Core i5-2500K - Best processor you can buy right now for gaming. The 2600K is not worth the extra $100.
Motherboard - MSI P67A-GD65 - This board is amazing partly because it has a ONE BUTTON overclock feature.
RAM - 8GB - Ram type and speed isn't a huge factor. Just make sure you have 8GB minimum.
Case - Cooler Master CM 690 II - This is the most amazing case I've ever used - I picked it based on 3DGameMan's 100% Kick Ass review
Power Supply - Corsair 1000w modular
GPU - EVGA Superclocked GTX 570
    OS drive - 120GB OCZ Vertex 2
    WoW drive - 64GB Crucial RealSSD C300

This new system 5-boxes without breaking a sweat on a 30" monitor. The CPU cores don't even get pegged at stock clock speed. I have the lead toon with maxed out Ultra graphics and I still get 60 FPS in most places on the lead toon and 30 FPS on the slaves.

Bollwerk, how much did your new system cost?
The OP mentioned a $1500 budget, but upgrades to my system are always tempting... and yours looks nice.

i got that exact mobo, cpu, video card and ram, just got 32 gigs of ram instead, runs 5 wows at 12% ram usage and 18% cpu usage with a movie playing most of the time. Its a beast.

Let them hate, as long as they fear.

I didn't buy all the items at the same time, but the cost was a bit more than $1500... probably closer to $1800 for everything.
