Default Change in class makeup Dilemma

I've been focusing a lot on PvE lately, and while my 5 shaman can handle a lot thrown at them, there are certain things which are tough to impossible (at least with my gear). I basically have the choice of keeping my 5xshaman as they are, or going to a 4xshaman 1x prot paladin. The disadvantage of course is having my other shaman fall behind (ie for pvp) and having to redo macros, playstyle etc.

    Thoughts?

Do you read the rest of this board? ?(

There have been numerous threads on this subject. No, I take that back. There have been a SHITLOAD of threads on this subject.
Good thought. Now does anyone have input in regards to the value of replacing one of a set of 5 boxed 70s? Preferably in regards to other downsides/upsides I may have missed.

I probably should have simply not posted my classes. I understand the mechanics of 5sham and 1+4, and I'm an experience pally tank. I'm interested in the other aspects. I can see now why you initially misunderstood my post because you only read the part where I indicated I was thinking of moving to a 4sh/1p grouping, not the part where I listed disadvantages as someone falling behind, redoing macros, etc.

I thought people here were only supposed to be assholes when their questions are answered by stickies, because with the amount of chaff posts that have started up here missing a post or too seems not unheard of.

I would clarify and ask again for thoughts on my actual questions in my original post, but you've made sure that won't happen.

Like you said in the original post, you have the choice to replace; are you fine kiting with 5 shaman as is? Keep 'em, you'll still be able to pvp just fine. Instances giving you trouble? Swap out for the pala for a real tank and get ready to write a fair number of tank-healing macros should the need arise, and it will.

Bottom line is it comes down to your choice; we dunno your lvl either, I'm assuming 70 so there's nothing to fall behind on really; if it's lower than that and you DO decide you need the tank, who cares about the leftover shaman? lol

    Nepida,

I run a full PvE team - no real way for me to PvP at all (1 Pally, 2 Mages, Warlock, Priest). So, take my advice with a grain of salt. If your team is already at 70, I don't see really how having one of them "retire" is going to have that retired one fall too far behind - as long as your goal is PvP gear. If your goal is PvE gear, then obviously they can't loot when you aren't playing them. However, if you enjoy running content (I don't know if you do or not) then running with a Pally MT may be enough to get you geared up enough on your other toons so that you don't NEED a pally MT any more - and then the Shammy that was left behind can get geared in a few more runs.

As for Macros ... that will be your issue. I spent litterally 2 days played (at least) getting my macros originally setup. It won't be so bad for you - but your going to have to shift how you play quite a bit. Work on your DNP lists and re-think your strategies for how you'll approach certain situations.

One thing I have to agree with Fur on ... you really need to take stock of what you really want. With 5 boxing you pretty much get locked in to one side or the other - you can either PvP or PvE... doing both is really hard with the group makeups that are possible. You can be ideal for one or the other, but not both. One fear bomb in the center of my group would spell doom for me - so I stay PvE focused ... and can and have taken on everything PvE content-wise at level (I even have both the Paladin and Warlock epic mounts). That's the trade-off.
    5 Boxing (85):
    Paladin, 2xMage, Warlock, Priest
    Paldius, Magria, Magrib, Walina, Priset
    Currently:
    5 Boxing (85):
    Paladin, 3xWarlock, Shaman
    Ghallo, Warlisia, Warlisib, Warlisic, Pleo!

I think you can do both, I run two grps PVP 4 locks and 1 shadow priest , they can also do pve (not heroics). they can clear instances much faster than tank grp. PVE grp war 3 mages 1 holy prst. I pvp with thme to get gear for tank and healer. they pvp fine in BGs, but dont do 5 , 3. 2 grps. I also do not run wsg in grp. AB and Eye enough focus on me and the grp. Having a prot war or din in pvp is fun. most attack person out in front at first and then you one shot them.

I would also recommend starting a second grp say 3 mages din and holy priest that would give you more options for other instances.

I've also been saddled with this dilema a bit as my 5 man team consists of 5 different classes and how best to change it up for pve/pvp as my group is not setup ideally for either at the moment. My intial team came about from having 3 70s and other toons who I brought up to 70 once I discovered multiboxing. So end result is I've got a tanking druid, elemental shammy, afflition lock, marksman hunter, holy priest, and a semi-retired combat sword rogue. I'm currently working on a prot pally, holy pally, and 3 mage combo who are in the 30's at this point and I'm tossing the idea in my head of starting a 4 shammy group who will pick up my 40 something warrior to finish the grind to 70.

When its all said and done I'll have a ton of options when it comes to 5 boxing.
    • No CC PVE Team: Pally tank, Shammy, Lock, Hunter, Priest/Pally Healer
    • CC PVE Team: Druid Tank / Warrior Tank, Mage x3, Priest/Pally Healer
    • Mixed Areana/PVP Team: Shammy/Warlock/Hunter/Rogue, Mage x3, Pally healer
    • Shammy Pvp Team: Shammy x5

More group combos are available, but the basic idea is there... If your gonna change it up, level another group of 5 which gives you more options in 5 boxing. This also gives the added bonus of being able to do instance grinding to level up to 80 once WotLK comes out instead of having to level a group of 5 and then level a single character by itself, etc.

Down-shots are shelling out more gold to get gear for more toons, additional time tweaking macros, and possibly having to do account to account transfers and/or buy additional accounts to balance your groups the way you like. The advantages outway the rest, but thats my opinion based on where I'm going etc.

You know you've been playing to much WoW when your Girlfriend's pants are a rare drop.

Now ou have good advice from Fursphere even if he is a bit frustrated that you didnt read the other posts where we already said this basic thing previously.

I will follow that up with my advice:

    I had 4x Mages / 1priest for PVP.
Didnt work out as well as I had hoped in arenas.

    Rolled 5x shammies for PVP
Still working on it. Decided to do the 5x shammies instead of 4 & a tank becasue I just like the idea of 5 shammies melting people & PVP is my number one priority.

Plan to solo lvl a pally for Tanking for either or both of the above groups. So once done I can mix & match as much as I feel like doing.
PVP is the main focus, but I would like to attempt to multibox some PVE content. It seems obvious im gonna need a tank.

The bottom line, is this has been asked & answered before, & it basically boils down to your priorities. This is something that only you can decide.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Quix, my dilemma was not whether a pally+4 shaman worked or whether 5 shaman worked. The problem was with pvp vs pve along with how people deal with dropping a character from their setup. Things like reputation, quests, keys and more things I had not thought of play a roll in this. It was my fault for not being extremely clear in this. However thank you everyone for your input.
