Thread: Fippy Darkpaw

    Default Fippy Darkpaw

I searched a couple times before posting the following...

SOE is about to launch another time-locked progression server of the original Everquest and I am seriously thinking about jumping into this. It won't be executed like the last two progression servers.

    It launches Feb 15th!

    Official Forums

I think it would be fun to take a walk down memory lane and re-live some memories. I personally am thinking about boxing it for the advantage and would invite any interested in trying it out.

$20 gets you all expansions and your first month free:

    Taken from the official forums:

What will be the name of the Time Locked Progression Server?

    • The Time Locked Progression Server will be named Fippy Darkpaw, as chosen by the community.

When will the Time Locked Progression Server open?

    • Currently we are targeting Tuesday February 15, 2011 for the opening of Fippy Darkpaw.

What rule set will the Time Locked Progression Server use?

    • The Time The Time Locked Progression Server will use the normal PvE rule set.

What sort of items and content will and will not be available at launch on Fippy?

    • For the Fippy Darkpaw Server we have done our absolute best to remove items which would give an inappropriate or undue advantage such as Defiant Armor or certain tradeskill related items. Generally the items that you will find should be items that came with the expansion currently available or were unlocked during that expansion. Augments created specifically for progression servers will be available.

Will there be Hotzones or Hotzone drops??

    • Hotzones and Hotzone items will not be available on Fippy at release

How about Marketplace items, will Mounts be available?

    • In addition to restrictions on items initially available within the game, Marketplace, Loyalty, and Claim items have been similarly addressed. If an item or buff offers stats, it will probably not be offered from any of those methods until a later date. Mounts will not be available until Legacy of Ykesha is unlocked or later, depending on the mount.

How will tradeskills work on Fippy Darkpaw?

    • We have made efforts to limit tradeskills to the expansion when the recipe actually came out. Potion making and jewelry making have had the old recipes enabled, and these will stay this way until the Prophecy of Ro expansion is unlocked. Similarly the new poisons will not be activated until around Underfoot. The exception is spell research where we will not reverse it to the older method. Instead, we have limited recipes for the appropriate expansion and made ingredients for research available in more zones..

How will progression work on Fippy Darkpaw?

    • As with the previous progression servers, players will need to defeat certain challenges to unlock newer expansions. Once these challenges have been defeated there will be a grace period where the server will stay in the current expansion. After the grace period, players will be able to vote through an in game poll to unlock the next expansion. The voting period will be one week.

Initially the grace period will be 90 days before voting will start for Kunark, then 60 days for each expansion after that. At some point we will even have a vote to see if players wish to change that grace period.

If the majority of players vote to unlock the next expansion, the next expansion will unlock at the end of the poll. If the majority of players voted to stay with the current expansion, then there will be a one week grace period before another poll will be posted. This will happen until a majority players vote to unlock the next expansion.

To answer a couple of questions I've seen here:
OOC regen will be disabled until the expansion it was added (TSS).
Currently we don't plan to re-enable items left on corpses. We may put this up for a vote some time after the server launches though.

so what, they have 17 expansions....at 3 months plus before each will unlock.....so 4/year.....4 years to unlock everything to what they have now?

I tried EQ, solo boxing, I was all alone and had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I don't kno if I could even begin to figure out how to pla lol.

So anyway, after reading this the other night, and being so bored/pissed w/ WoW atm, I went and read abit for EQ, seems it's almost dead, but it would seem it's very easy to multibox w/ Innerspace and ISboxer. It should be forgiving on my PC too as I can run 5 WoW's at least I could in WoTLK w/ decent settings on graphics.

Anyway, I couldn't find a physical copy of the game, so I'm using my old discs to reinstall EQ....like 7 expansions behind and stuck onn a 12 hour download....grrrr. Once I get my first 2 accounts going, I'll add up 4 more so I can have a full group once I can figure out Innerspace and ISboxer.

Anyway, I think I'm going to go w/ an all hunman party of SK, Cleric, and 4 Mages....(wanted Necros, but seems EQ boards say I'll be way better off w/ Mages.) Idk, maybe replace a mage w/ a Druid or Wizard for ports? Idk lol.

Yeah, you really want some ports in there. You should also consider a pulling class (monk, bard), that becomes really important as you progress through difficult content. Also, diversity is a good thing with EQ. Each class brings something that you need. Each class has such specific tools that you want diversity.

I just went back to EQ last week and fired up 6 accounts. Setting up isboxer is a breeze because there is less features to integrate (no jamba etc). I revived my Xkeys 64 usb and it is really handy for eq. Make good use of your action target groups so you can split commands out to your healer and dps. I give the cleric 6 target keys and have the heals in a column next to the targets. Then I use the 1 through = keys as pass to all and run every thing from the tank after I pull. I use a couple keys for bard songs and you can see the cast bar on the bard to see if the song has stopped.

Use dedicated follow key and a macro/social like this:
    /target leader
    pause 5
    /follow

Without the pause they won't follow because the target doesn't switch fast enough.

Have fun with you decision either way.

I set up a couple triial accounts last night, resubbed toIS and DL'd ISboxer yesterday. Was trying to get everything sorted out and working smoothely. Did ok up until the mouse. The mouse on the alt windows when brought to the main screen tracks to the right and below where the cursor is.... so I'm kind of stuck w/ that. After that, then I'll have to learn 'how to' EQ Macro....and of course how to play the game

But 2 instances seem hardly a drag on my system at all. I'm probably going to have to hook up my second monitor and do it that way instead of everyone windowed down.

Verify the same resolution on them all. I have perfect mouse alignment with all of mine. EQ seems to be much less taxing on system resources.

What resolution you using? Maybe there's a best one, idk. I'm switching them around now, Have to start EQ manually, because right now w/ IS the mouse is so out of alignment it's unworkable.

I am using 1680x1050 and have no problems with the default interface. I set it up on one account then copy the layout (in options, alt-O) on the other characters. there is actually very few things you need mouse repeat for in EQ. Maybe to click pok stones but we won't see them on Fippy for quite a while.

I am going to run a full group starting from Qeynos. I may change my start city depending on race/class restrictions.

Has anyone mentioned a boxing guild yet?

Yeah, mouse repeater can suck my balls right now. Lol, I'm still learning how to use ISBoxer and I am kind of stupid, but I know others can get it to wok, I should too. Eventually.

Idk if I'm going to do a pack of DE's, seems race/class/alignment matters early in the progression of xpacs. Idk if I'd be gimnping myself w/ evil races from the start. If so, plan B was thinking Humans from Qeynos.

Once the server gets going, I'd be willing to hook up w/ other boxers. Sometimes it gets old playing w/ myself
